Can the Wrong Cashier Placement Lead to Business Losses? A Feng Shui Insight

When a business starts losing money, most owners immediately look at familiar explanations. They review pricing, adjust marketing strategies, or examine operational costs. These are logical steps. But according to Feng Shui practitioner Alan Chong, there are times when the issue may come from something far less obvious: the position of the cashier counter.

In Feng Shui, the cashier represents the point where money enters and circulates within the business. Because of this, its location and direction are considered critical. When placed in an unfavourable sector, it may disrupt the flow of energy connected to income and financial stability.

“The cashier is the point of income and money collection in your business,” Alan explains. “If it is placed in a sector with negative energy, it can cause financial losses. Sometimes it can even lead to theft or manipulation by staff.”

This is why the placement of the cashier is often one of the first areas Feng Shui practitioners examine when a business experiences unexplained losses.

When the Cashier Is in the Wrong Spot

Alan recalls a case where a business experienced unexplained losses over a long period of time. The owners initially suspected operational issues or internal problems, but nothing seemed to explain the situation.

After examining the premises, Alan discovered that the cashier counter had been placed in a sector associated with negative energy.

Once the cashier position was adjusted, the losses stopped.

Another example involved a restaurant in Kota Kemuning that had been performing well for years. The owners later expanded their premises and moved the cashier counter to a new location during renovation.

Everything else remained the same. The food quality did not change, the service remained consistent, and the menu stayed the same.

Yet the business began to decline.

According to Alan, the relocation disrupted the energy flow connected to the cashier area, which affected how the business attracted customers and income.

Location and Direction Both Matter

Many business owners place the cashier counter based on convenience.

Some position it near the exit so customers can pay quickly. Others place it deeper inside the premises to manage customer flow more easily.

However, Feng Shui considers more than convenience.

“Most people place their cashier for convenience,” Alan says. “But Feng Shui is built on two main pillars, location and direction, and both matter.”

These two factors determine how energy moves through the space.

When the location and direction of the cashier are not aligned with the surrounding environment, it may create an imbalance that affects the business in subtle ways. Customer traffic may slow down, sales may fluctuate, or the space may simply feel less inviting.

“That’s why some restaurants with great food and fair prices still cannot attract crowds,” Alan explains.

Beyond the Cashier: Other Key Feng Shui Areas

While the cashier is one of the most important areas, Feng Shui also places significant attention on the kitchen, stove, and main entrance.

These elements influence how energy enters, circulates, and generates income within a business.

For example, the kitchen and stove symbolise wealth generation in Feng Shui, especially for restaurants.

“The kitchen represents wealth,” Alan explains. “If placed correctly, it attracts prosperity. But if it’s wrong, it drains your income.”

Many restaurant owners design their kitchens based purely on practicality, without considering how the layout affects energy flow.

This can lead to situations where businesses appear busy but still struggle financially.

“Many owners tell me they cannot understand where their money goes,” Alan says.

“They say all their expenses are accounted for, but they are still losing money. That’s often the effect of poor energy flow.”

When the Space Supports the Business

For many entrepreneurs, layout decisions are often made based on convenience or aesthetics. Yet Feng Shui suggests that certain areas carry deeper significance.

Positioning mistakes in these key areas can quietly affect customer flow and financial stability.

For business owners facing unexplained financial struggles, it may be worth asking a simple question: Is the space working with the business, or against it?
