Weak sales can be one of the most frustrating challenges for business owners, especially when a location appears to have everything going for it. Many business owners assume that a prime location and heavy foot traffic automatically translate into strong sales.
But in reality, some of the busiest locations still struggle with weak sales and fail to generate the results they expect.

According to feng shui practitioner Alan Chong, this is where environmental energy may be playing a bigger role than many people realise.
“If a location has high foot traffic but weak sales, we need to conduct a proper assessment first. Feng shui is about understanding why certain places produce certain results,” he said.
Alan explained that he usually begins with a pre-audit assessment to identify potential issues before recommending any changes.
“If the client sees that the findings are accurate, then we proceed with further improvements and monitor the results based on mutually agreed KPIs.”
Energy Creates Results And Explains Weak Sales
At the heart of feng shui is one simple principle: energy creates results.
Alan pointed to Avenue K in Kuala Lumpur as an interesting example. The mall sits in a highly populated business district surrounded by offices, hotels and even enjoys direct access to an LRT station.

Despite these advantages, he believes the gap between Avenue K and neighbouring KLCC in terms of business performance is significant.
“There are many possible reasons. It could be the land formation, the main entrance, the flow of movement inside the building, or the placement of certain features such as water elements,” he explained.
He added that Avenue K’s position facing KLCC and having a river behind it may also warrant further investigation from a feng shui perspective.
For Alan, these factors may help explain why some businesses continue to suffer from weak sales despite being located in busy and highly accessible areas.
The Mystery Of The Strand And Its Weak Sales

Another example highlighted by Alan is The Strand in Kota Damansara.
The area surrounding the mall is filled with offices and shop lots, creating a large working population that should theoretically generate strong customer traffic.
However, the mall itself has gradually become quiet, with many retail outlets no longer operating.
“When it first opened, there were many stalls and businesses there. The question is, why did it eventually become almost like a ghost town?” he said.
According to Alan, one of the possible reasons is the positioning of the entrance, although he noted that a detailed assessment would be needed to identify all contributing factors.
The situation at The Strand, he said, is another example of how weak sales can occur even when the surrounding area appears to have plenty of potential customers.
Feng Shui Is Not Religion

Alan believes that one of the biggest barriers preventing businesses from exploring feng shui is misunderstanding.
Many people view feng shui as something mystical or assume it conflicts with their religious beliefs.
“Feng shui is not religion. Feng shui is energy, just like gravity. Gravity doesn’t belong to any religion,” he said.
He added that classical feng shui does not require rituals, mantras, or talismans. Instead, it focuses on understanding environmental factors and how energy influences human behaviour and business outcomes.
Because of misconceptions and hearsay, many businesses experiencing weak sales may be overlooking opportunities to improve their situations.
For Alan, the message is simple: when a location has all the ingredients for success but still struggles with weak sales, the answer may lie in understanding the energy behind the space.
