It was in 2012 when Dr Siti Maria, founder of Anggun Medi-Klinik noticed all sorts of things like skin problems when she was working in a private clinic in Kelantan. “Most of the patients came to the clinic to seek my advice regarding their skin issues. From a single question “can doctor cure my skin problem?” that sparked my interest in aesthetic,” shares Dr Siti Maria.
She decided to take her interest to the next level and enrolled in the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine courses to learn more about it. Ultimately, she bought a laser machine to polish up her practical.
Despite operating the clinic in a rural state in the northeast of Peninsular Malaysia, the feedback was overwhelming as the aesthetic clinic was considered as something new and fresh. Besides, due to the hot and humid climate, it easily triggers the skin problem.
The origins of Anggun Medi-Klinik

As time went on, her husband Dr Ahmad Zailani had to be transferred to Hospital Kuala Lumpur. Taking it as a good opportunity to scale up the business, Anggun Medi-Klinik broadened its portfolio by opening a small medispa in Danau Desa in 2015.
“It happened that the owner of the spa wanted to let go of the spa. So, we bought it. But, it wasn’t that easy, my husband had to take out his EPF saving,” she recalls the establishment of Anggun Medispa’s first branch.
Praise to god, the business was booming and she opened another outlet in Wangsa Maju. “From a small medispa, we finally managed to open our own Medi-Klinik, KKM certified and listed under Annual Practicing Certificates (APC).”
Today, Anggun Medi-Klinik is extremely well known among customers, particularly for its aesthetic services and its focus on executing the services well according to the Ministry of Health Malaysia.
Changing misconceptions through Anggun Medi-Klinik

Dr Siti Maria, 37, together with her husband, Dr Ahmad Zailani are well aware of the misconceptions towards aesthetic and are trying harder to change the society’s views. She strongly believes that soon enough, Malaysians will come to realise that at its core, aesthetic is just a means to boost self-confidence and improve quality of life.
Invest in your skin. It is going to represent you for a very long time.
“Most people don’t understand the importance of seeking a well-registered doctor to get the right treatment. Some tend to go to a spa and let the beauticians get the work done, but it’s extremely dangerous. That’s what we are trying to educate people that we are a Medi-Klinik, certified by KKM to handle laser machine.”
As the market is getting stiffer day by day, Dr Siti Maria understands that there’s a need to stand out from its competitors. Anggun Medi-Klinik offers a full range of aesthetic and cosmetic treatment ranging from removal of a cyst, xanthelasma, mole and skin tag, curing hyperpigmentation, antiaging and wrinkles reduction, as well as medical and surgical treatment from minor skin disease to minor surgery.
Every patient has a story

“It is my passion to treat patients and restore their confidence level. I want them to look young, love themselves even more and also improve their quality of life.”
Asking about some of the patient cases that had transformed 360, Dr Siti Maria smiled and shared the story sincerely.
“The best moment so far was when my patient feels grateful when her skin is getting much better. Even myself couldn’t recognise her after a few treatments because she looks so different and I could tell that she’s extremely happy and it somehow boosts her confident level drastically,” adding that she’s extremely grateful to have a supportive family and husband who never fail to encourage her.
3 branches and counting

As one of the fastest-growing aesthetic clinic in Malaysia, Anggun Medi-Klinik comprises of 3 branches; in Wangsa Maju, Shah Alam and Cyberjaya. All were built in just 3-year time. Anggun Medi-Klinik is constantly re-evaluating its offering to stay ahead in the market and already has the plan to add more services to strengthen its offerings.
With Dr Siti Maria and Dr Ahmad Zailani as the masterminds, they are aiming to double the projection for 2020 with the help of 5 doctors and 12 staff.
What’s next?

“We maximise our marketing through social media and we try our best to let people know who is Anggun Medi-Klinik and what makes us stand out from the rest. We would like to expand our physical branch in Johor Bahru as the demand is higher from our current patients and perhaps one in Kelantan by the end of 2020.
“My advise for doctors who wish to venture in the aesthetic industry, learn thoroughly about it first as it involves more on practical, not merely on theory. I spent hours studying how to operate the laser machine to get rid of birthmark and god know how many study cases I read to truly understand what is the best treatment. So pour your heart into it and work harder,” she ends.
