Hawkers and small traders across Malaysia are set to receive further support following Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement of a RM1 million allocation to help improve their earnings. The funds will be channelled through the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, which will coordinate assistance for traders and their associations nationwide.
Anwar announced the allocation at the closing ceremony of the national-level Hawkers and Small Traders Day (HPPK) Carnival 2026 in Kajang on 1 November 2026.
From RM100,000 To RM1 Million For Hawkers And Small Traders

The prime minister said he had initially considered allocating RM100,000. However, he increased the amount after taking into account the hundreds of thousands of hawkers, small businesses, stalls and associations operating across the country.
He stressed that the assistance should be managed properly, with the aim of helping traders achieve year-on-year improvements in income.
The allocation is intended to support business improvements and higher earnings. The reports did not specify individual assistance amounts, eligibility requirements or application procedures.
Anwar Urges Malaysians To Support Local
Beyond government assistance, Anwar encouraged Malaysians to continue buying from hawkers and small traders, recognising the role their stalls play in everyday life.
He estimated that up to 85% of Malaysians frequent food stalls and shared that he often has lunch at such outlets after Friday prayers as a way of supporting small businesses.
Anwar also said roadside stalls can offer food that is tastier than dishes at established restaurants, while remaining more affordable.
At the same time, he reminded traders to maintain cleanliness and hygiene at their premises, helping build customer confidence and encourage continued support.

The event was also attended by Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Steven Sim, Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
Federation of Malay Hawkers and Small Traders Associations of Malaysia president Datuk Zainal Abidin Abd Majid was also present.
