Artificial intelligence tools are becoming increasingly useful for university students, but subscription costs can make them difficult to access. Google wants to change that by offering eligible Malaysian university students 12 months of Google AI Plus for free, giving them access to advanced AI learning tools and 400GB of cloud storage.
The offer is estimated to provide total savings of RM287.88 and is available for redemption until 31 December 2026.
However, students should pay attention to one important condition. A valid payment method is required, and the subscription will automatically renew at RM23.99 per month after the free period unless it is cancelled.

Who Can Claim The Free Google AI Plus Plan?
The Google AI Plus student offer is available to eligible college and university students in Malaysia who are 18 years old or above.
It is part of a wider global campaign covering students across more than 140 countries.
Both new users and students whose previous Google AI trial has already expired may be eligible.
Students can visit Google’s official student portal to verify their status before signing up.
What Students Will Receive For Free
The free 12-month Google AI Plus subscription provides students with higher usage limits in Gemini, which could be helpful during busy assignment periods and examinations.
The plan includes:
- Twice the standard usage limits in Gemini
- Access to Gemini through text, voice and video
- 400GB of cloud storage shared across Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos
- Unlimited uploads for Study Notebooks
- Interactive learning visualisations
- Gemini Live practice sessions
The additional storage can be used for lecture notes, research files, presentation slides, assignments and other academic materials.
Students can also use Gemini Live to practise oral examinations, presentations and interviews through more natural, interactive conversations.
Study Notebooks Can Turn Lecture Materials Into Study Plans
One of the main education features introduced by Google is Study Notebooks.
Students can upload course materials such as syllabuses, lecture slides and notes into Gemini. The AI can then organise the information into a more structured learning path.
It can help students map out their semester, prepare weekly lessons, create flashcards and monitor their progress.
Google is also introducing a Student Hub inside Gemini under the “Level up your studying” section. This brings promotional offers and learning tools together in one place.
Other features include Practice Quizzes and Google Lens’ “Check My Work,” which guides students through equations and problem-solving exercises step by step.
Instead of immediately giving students an answer, these features are designed to help them understand the process behind it.
Students Can Also Get Google AI Pro At A Lower Price
Malaysian students who require higher usage limits and more storage can subscribe to Google AI Pro for RM23.99 per month, down from its normal price of RM97.99 per month.
The discounted Google AI Pro plan includes:
- Four times higher usage limits in Gemini
- Gemini integration across Gmail, Google Docs and Google Slides
- Expanded AI features in Google Search
- 5TB of cloud storage
- YouTube Premium Lite
Students who also want the full YouTube Premium experience can choose the Google AI Pro and YouTube Premium bundle for RM33.49 per month.
The normal price for this bundle is RM118.89 per month. It includes ad-free YouTube videos and music streaming alongside all the Google AI Pro features.
How Malaysian Students Can Redeem The Free Plan
Students can claim the offer by visiting the official Google Gemini student page.
They will need to sign in using their Google account, confirm their student eligibility and complete the registration process.
The offer must be redeemed by 31 December 2026.
A valid payment method is required during registration, even though students will not be charged for the promotional 12-month period.
Remember To Cancel Before The Free Period Ends
The Google AI Plus plan will automatically renew when the free subscription period ends.
Unless cancelled, users will be charged RM23.99 per month after the promotion expires.
Students who do not want to continue paying should set a reminder and cancel the subscription before their individual renewal date. Google states that the plan can be cancelled at any time.
For Malaysian students, the free offer provides an opportunity to explore advanced AI tools for research, revision, file organisation and exam preparation without paying for the first year.
However, students should still use AI responsibly, verify the information it provides and avoid submitting AI-generated work without understanding their university’s academic integrity rules.
