Nga Kor Ming, Minister of Local Government Development (KPKT), visited Singapore for two days from 24th August to 25th August with the aim of enhancing bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and Singapore.
During the trip, the minister explored various projects related to the Ministry of Local Government Development’s plans. This included visiting Housing and Development Board (HDB) flats, urban redevelopment projects, solid waste management facilities, heritage building conservation projects, and renewable energy power plants.

Nga also accepted an invitation to attend a meeting alongside Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Singapore’s Foreign Minister, and Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State in the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and National Development.
This official visit reflects a continuous effort to reinforce the already strong relationship, given that Singapore is a neighbouring country and a vital partner for Malaysia. Consequently, the close interactions between the two nations can result in collaborative efforts for shared benefits, ultimately benefiting the citizens of both nations.
He stated, “Apart from being a significant trading and investment partner for Malaysia, the strong purchasing power among Singaporean tourists plays a crucial role in driving Malaysia’s continuous economic growth.”

“Singapore has accomplished notable success in areas like public housing construction, urban green initiatives, city renewal, generating renewable energy, managing economic policies, anti-corruption efforts, and more. These achievements are worth looking up to and offer valuable lessons for Malaysia,” he said.
In addition, Nga highlighted that by 2030, the total population of all countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is estimated to reach 650 million, making it the fourth-largest economy globally. To ensure lasting stability and success, keeping up robust cooperation and peaceful progress in the ASEAN region is a core principle. The friendly relationship between Malaysia and Singapore also adds to the security and growth of the area.
Hence, it’s crucial for both government bodies and the general public to enhance their collaboration and jointly shape the future. This official visit was attended by Dato’ Jayaselan A/L K. Navaratnam, Director-General of the National Housing Department, KPKT, and Datuk Seri Haji Mohd Nazri bin Md. Shariff, Chief Executive Officer of PR1MA Malaysia (PR1MA).
