The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) ushered in the Chinese New Year with a vibrant and heartfelt celebration, embracing the spirit of togetherness and cultural appreciation. Held at the ministry’s headquarters, the event carried the theme “MADANI Muhibah”, reflecting the values of unity, harmony, and the beauty of Malaysia’s multicultural society.

The air was filled with festive energy as attendees were treated to lively lion dance performances, cultural showcases, and a spread of traditional delicacies. Children beamed with joy as they received angpau, a gesture that not only symbolizes good fortune but also reinforces the spirit of giving and goodwill among all communities.
Minister YB Tuan Nga Kor Ming, in his speech, highlighted the deeper significance of the occasion beyond the festivities. The KPKT Minister emphasized that Chinese New Year is not merely a celebration for the Chinese community but an opportunity for all Malaysians to embrace and appreciate the diverse cultural heritage that enriches the nation. He described the event as a reflection of KPKT’s commitment to strengthening respect and mutual understanding among its people, fostering a Malaysia that thrives on unity.
He also highlighted that the celebration serves as a source of motivation for KPKT employees as they embark on a new year of achievements and progress, aligned with the ministry’s “Greater HEIGHTS” vision.
- Humility (rendah hati)
- Ethics (etika)
- Integrity (integriti)
- Gung-Ho (team spirit & dedication)
- Honesty (kejujuran)
- Teamwork (kerjasama)
- Success (kejayaan)
These principles, he explained, are essential in driving the ministry forward and ensuring it remains steadfast in its mission to serve the nation.

No Malaysian celebration would be complete without an array of culinary delights, and the event did not disappoint. Guests enjoyed over 25 specially curated dishes, including ‘Fire Kitchen Abang Bomba,’ ‘Pasembor Penang,’ ‘Cendol Songkok Tinggi,’ and ‘Apam Balik Seri Menanti.’ Adding a special touch, entrepreneurs from Kampung Baru Cina showcased their signature products, in line with KPKT’s efforts to position these communities as key attractions for the upcoming Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (TMM 2026). With over 613 Kampung Baru Cina under KPKT’s care, the ministry’s scope has now expanded to include the welfare and development of Indian settlements, a move that underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to inclusivity and shared prosperity.

The celebration was graced by prominent figures, including Minister of National Unity, YB Datuk Aaron Ago Anak Dagang, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), YB Dr. Zaliha binti Mustafa, and Chief Secretary to the Government, YBhg. Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Bin Abu Bakar, among other distinguished guests, senior officials, and key stakeholders. The presence of over 2,500 attendees, including ministry employees, government agency representatives, strategic partners, and members of the media, further highlighted the significance of the event in reinforcing the values of togetherness and national unity.

As the Chinese New Year celebration concluded, KPKT reaffirmed its dedication to fostering a Malaysia that is sustainable, prosperous, and united. The ministry remains committed to instilling values of respect, empathy, and compassion, ensuring that the nation’s rich cultural diversity continues to be a source of strength and pride for all.
With a renewed spirit of unity and collaboration, KPKT moves forward, embracing the new year with optimism and a shared vision for a better Malaysia; one where every citizen, regardless of background, feels a deep sense of belonging.
