Forbes has officially announced its latest 30 Under 30 Asia list for the class of 2022. According to Forbes, more than 4,000 nominees applied this year and the final list consists of 300 honourees ranging from young entrepreneurs, artists, athletes, industry leaders, and talented individuals across the region.
Of all 300 honourees, eight Malaysians made it on Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list 2022. Here’s the full list of eight Malaysians of varying backgrounds and industries who have made it on the list this year:
1. Nur Batrisya Mohammad Nazri@SYA – Female rap artist
Nur Batrisya Mohammad Nazri or commonly known as SYA is a female rap artist. In 2020, she became the first Southeast Asian female rap artist to sign with Def Jam Recordings – the American multinational label behind iconic Hollywood artists such as Jay-Z and Rihanna.
The 25-year-old rapper has gained a growing fanbase for her talent in bilingual rap. Her debut single “PrettyGirlBop” featuring Singaporean rapper Yung Raja has amassed over 150,000 YouTube views and over 200,000 streams on Spotify. Her second hit is Madame which she released in late 2021.
2. Chong Kern Wei- Arts in Motion
Chong Kern Wei is a graphic design and advertising graduate. At only 25 years old, he has been appointed as the director at “Arts in Motion” – a broadcasting and media company. Chong has worked with big names such as BMW, Netflix, Asahi and also Chanel to name a few.
With his current role as a director, he was also the man behind TIME’s “Climate is Everything” cover, which featured 50,000 green-tipped matchsticks.
3. Cheyenne Tan – Meralta Films
Cheyenne Tan is an award-winning filmmaker who has won several international awards. A short documentary she co-produced titled “St. Louis Superman” was nominated for Best Documentary Short Subject at the 2020 Academy Awards and bagged the Critics Choice Award for Best Short Documentary.
Besides, she also won the Audience Award for Best Short at the AFI Docs Film Festival for a short film she co-produced titled “Shelter”.
4. Henry Ting – TTRacing
Henry Ting is the founder of the Malaysian brand – TTRacing which specialises in ergonomic gaming chairs. The 28-year-old entrepreneur behind TTRacing is a Nanyang Technology University Singapore graduate.
The ergonomic gaming chairs are not only targeted at gamers but anyone who needs to be seated for long hours. He was previously recognised as EY’s Entrepreneur of the Year Malaysia in 2021.
5. Jay Perry Ang and Kinder Eng – motoguo
Jay Perry Ang (27) and Kinder Eng (29) are co-founders of motoguo – a unique Malaysian fashion label. Motoguo is designed to “challenge peculiarity in the most romantic, cynical and ingenious manner.”
Motoguo’s designs have been featured on the catwalks of Milan, Tokyo, and Shanghai Fashion Weeks as well as in the popular HBO TV Show – Euphoria.
6. Sharina Shahrin – Everyday Studios
Sharina Shahrin is an active women’s rights activist and also a visual artist. For Sharina, she believes in freedom of expression and accessibility to art. She also believes that art can be used as a vehicle for change. Thus, she co-founded a platform known as Safe Space – which allows women to express freely, connect and learn through events and retreats.
7. Raudhah Nazran – Accelerate Global
Raudhah is a social entrepreneur and the founder and CEO of Accelerate Global – a social enterprise founded in 2019. The company tackles youth unemployment by offering upskilling programmes.
Raudhah also is a Tatler Asia Gen. T Leader of Tomorrow Honoree 2020 and a nominee for the Women of the Future Southeast Asia Awards.
8. Zenna Law, Elaine Sim, and Sophia Aliza Jamal – Pinkcollar Employment Agency
These powerful women are the founders of Pinkcollar Employment Agency. The company strives to serve employers looking for a better way to hire domestic workers as well as for workers seeking safe and dignified jobs.
According to Forbes, Pinkcollar has received a US$200,000 grant from the Global Fund to End Modern Slavery in order to extend its offerings to Indonesian migrant workers and Malaysia’s manufacturing sector.
