Omakase is a Japanese phrase that means “I’ll leave it up to you”. The phrase omakase, commonly used when ordering sushi in Japanese restaurants – where they let the chef prepare and serve specialities sushi to the customers. It is as opposed to specifying their order based on a menu.

There are a few Japanese restaurants that specialise in an omakase-style dining experience in the Klang Valley. If you are looking for an unforgettable and unique dining experience, you can try omakase. Just watch the chef presenting a series of dishes that will surprise you. We compiled a list of Top 10 Omakase Restaurants in KL & Selangor for you to try:

1. Nobu, KL

Nobu KL has recently moved over to Four Seasons Place and is no longer at Menara 3 Petronas.  The new place overlooking the natural beauty of KLCC park in the city centre features a classic Nobu minimalist design with a new Sake Room, which serves quality nihonshu from a brewery in Hokusetsu, Japan, a bar that situated closer to the entrance and also exclusive private rooms.

Nobu KL is a perfect place for romantic dates or if you want to splurge on a fancy dinner. This October, they are offering “Exclusive Selection For Two” menu that features five courses. The menu is priced at RM398++ for two pax. The Exclusive Selection For Two begins with Moriawase comprising Oyster Shooter with Ponzu Sauce alongside Salmon with Kelp in Jalapeno Dressing, Whitefish Tiradito Style.

The main course features Umami Seabass Tempura with Carrot Sauce and the penultimate course features Braised Wagyu Short Rib with Apple Teriyaki. Guests can indulge in Tofu Bavarian on Monaka with Jasmine Sorbet and Palm Sugar Mochi to end the scrumptious five-course dinner.

2. Sushi Azabu

Sushi Azabu originated from New York City. It is a world-renowned Michelin-starred restaurant. The head chef will serve traditional house speciality sushi crafted from freshly imported fish flown in from Japan. Omakase courses start from RM360++ and are available for lunch or dinner. You can pair it with sake to enjoy the selection of sushi crafted by the head chef.

3. Taka

Taka offers an exclusive experience and enjoyable omakase course. You can experience the intimate setting at the 300-year-old Hinoki wood 16-seater counter and watch the chef preparing and serving you sushi. All meals are using the finest and freshest seasonal ingredients flown in from Japan. Diners can choose how many courses they want to be served and of course, the price is varying according to your preferred meals.

4. Kampachi

Located in Pavilion, Kampachi let the diners have the freedom to experience Omakase dining depending on their budget. You can simply let the chef know how much you would like to spend for your lunch or dinners and leave it to him to create tasting meals for you.

5. Edju Omakase

Edju Omakase can host up to 10 guests at once at the sushi counter. The restaurant serves contemporary omakase meals using only aged fish in its sushi. Price starts from RM380++ per pax. Expect something new, fusion, unique and mouth-watering sushi at Edju Omakase. The restaurant suits those who are not looking for a traditional Japanese omakase restaurant.

6. Sou Omakase Dining

Sou Omakase is popular among foodies who are looking for a first-time omakase experience. There is no ala-carte menu here – straight omakase courses. The omakase lunch set comes in 8 courses including soup, sashimi, yakimono and homemade dessert at an affordable price of only RM148++ per pax.

7. Sushi Ryu

Similar to Edju Omakase, Sushi Ryu serves fusion meals with a modern twist. Diners can expect dishes infused with seasonal truffles, foei gras and caviar. You can try their signature dish which is wagyu beef. The price for omakase courses is RM279++ per pax.

8. Iketeru @ Hilton KL

Iketeru, Hilton KL curated omakase courses straight from Japan. All the meals prepared are using seasonal produce from Japan. Forget the menu, let the chef decide what you should eat and be mind-blown.

9. Sushi Hibiki

This elegant Japanese restaurant is located at Four Seasons Place Kuala Lumpur. Headed by chef Makoto Saito Sam, the chef love to make conversation with his customers while creating omakase courses. The chef has spent two decades honing his skills in Tokyo, Syden, Rome and Kyoto before opening his own restaurant in KL.

10. Sushi Ori

Sushi Ori was established in late 2018. It has a 10-seater sushi counter. Sushi Ori focuses on the Sushi Omakase menu which consists mainly of nigiri and sushi. There are also the regular omakase which comes with sashimi, grilled dishes and more.
