The government has raised the monthly household income eligibility limit for Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) application under Syarikat Perumahan Negara Sdn Bhd (SPNB) from RM3,000 to RM5,000.
Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming said this would open up more opportunities for the people to apply for the housing scheme.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony of RMR offer letters and house keys, Nga assured that the price of an RMR unit would continue to be subsidised by the government, despite the rising and uncertain cost of building materials.
“The starting cost for an RMR unit is RM75,000. However, applicants only need to pay RM50,000 – the remaining RM20,000 will continue to be subsidised by the government. It is a special gift from the unity government to the rakyat,” he told reporters.

In addition, among RMR’s new initiatives was the extension of the monthly instalment period from 16 to 25 years with a fixed rate of RM300.
“Applicants can submit their applications online via the Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) website and no longer through agents. The process will be done transparently without paying agent fees,” he said.
The RMR housing scheme is one of the programs created to help target low-income groups who earn less than RM5,000 and do not own a house but have land to build their own houses.
“So far a total of 56,002 RMR units have been successfully built by SPNB since 2002 until last March. “This year, another 4,250 RMR units are expected to be built with an allocation of RM358 million, as announced in the 2023 Budget,” he said.
A total of 40 recipients from Selangor, Perak, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan received the keys to their new houses at the ceremony.
