The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) has allocated a total of RM216.44 million to the State of Johor to strengthen housing development, public amenities, and the well-being of the people through the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) Development Programme, Rolling Plan 1 (RP1) for 2026.
The allocation was announced during the official working visit of the Minister of Housing and Local Government, YB Tuan Nga Kor Ming, to Johor as part of the Sentuhan Kasih KPKT 4.0 outreach programme, which is taking place over two days from 25 June to 26 June.
A symbolic handover of the allocation was presented to PMgr. Sr. Ts. Dr. Haji Mohamed Ali bin Mohamed Abu Backer, Director of Valuation and Property Management of Majlis Bandaraya Iskandar Puteri, representing the Johor State Government during the minister’s visit to Flat Taman Ungku Tun Aminah (TUTA), Iskandar Puteri.
Government’s Commitment To The People Of Johor
According to YB Tuan Nga Kor Ming, the RM216.44 million allocation demonstrates the continued commitment of the MADANI Government in ensuring that the people of Johor have access to quality housing, comfortable public amenities, and a more sustainable and prosperous living environment.
The allocation covers various strategic initiatives encompassing public housing development, strata housing maintenance, public facilities, community safety, solid waste management, urban and rural development, as well as community well-being programmes that will directly benefit the people of Johor.
A significant portion of the allocation will be channelled towards strengthening the people’s housing agenda, including the implementation of Rumah Malaysia (Rental), Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR), Program Residensi Rakyat (PRR), Pembangunan Perumahan Inklusif MADANI (PIM), Program Penyenggaraan Perumahan (PPP), Tabung Penyelenggaraan Perumahan Malaysia (TPPM), and the Program Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR).
The Programme Rumah Mesra Rakyat alone will involve the construction of 480 housing units to help provide better access to affordable housing for eligible Malaysians.
Upgrading Public Infrastructure And Community Facilities in Johor
KPKT has also allocated funds to upgrade public facilities and community infrastructure, including public markets, Gerai MADANI, drainage systems, BMW public toilets, recreational parks, fire and rescue stations, and the maintenance of residential areas.
Among the key projects are the upgrading of Pasar Jalan Ibrahim in Batu Pahat, improvements to Medan Selera Asam Pedas Parit Jawa in Muar, the construction of Gerai MADANI, and the upgrading of MADANI public markets.
These initiatives are aimed at improving comfort, safety, and the overall quality of life of residents throughout Johor.
The allocation also includes several public safety initiatives, namely the upgrading of the Kluang Fire and Rescue Station, the Larkin Fire and Rescue Station, as well as preliminary works for the construction of the Johor Bahru Sentral Fire and Rescue Station.
These projects are expected to strengthen emergency response capabilities and improve public safety services in the state.
Promoting Sustainable Development
In line with the government’s sustainable development agenda, funds have also been allocated for solid waste management projects, the safe closure of landfill sites, public landscape development, and the preparation of more organised, sustainable, and resilient urban and rural development plans.
Key planning initiatives include the Review of the Johor State Structure Plan 2040, the Tangkak District Local Plan 2040 Study, and the Endau, Mersing Development Master Plan.
KPKT also continues to place emphasis on community well-being through the implementation of the Urban Home Repair Programme, the Non-Islamic Houses of Worship Maintenance Initiative (RIBI), and New Village Development Projects.
These initiatives are intended to improve the living conditions of those in need while further strengthening community harmony and unity.
Strengthening Cooperation With The Johor State Government
Throughout the working visit, YB Nga Kor Ming also inspected various development projects and public facilities in Johor Bahru, Iskandar Puteri, Kulai, Kluang, and Batu Pahat, involving public housing projects, community facilities, public markets, recreational parks, non-Islamic houses of worship, and local infrastructure developments.
He emphasised that KPKT will continue to strengthen its strategic cooperation with the Johor State Government and local authorities to ensure that every project is implemented efficiently, transparently, and with high impact for the benefit of the people.
