Man Shares His Journey From CEO To Becoming A Food Delivery Rider

Success can disappear faster than many people imagine. For Indera Aria Wee Jeeny, life once looked very different. The former food delivery CEO had built a thriving food ordering and delivery platform that generated millions of ringgit in revenue and provided income opportunities for thousands of riders.

Today, however, he earns a living as a food rider himself.

Yet despite losing almost everything, the 40-year-old has not lost his determination to rebuild his life and continue helping others.

Building A Multi-Million Ringgit Business

Although he did not come from a wealthy family, Indera worked hard to build his company, which began operations in October 2019.

At its peak, the platform recorded profits of up to RM6 million and had approximately 3,000 active food riders operating across Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah.

The company also remained a strategic partner under the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).

However, things eventually took a dramatic turn.

According to Indera, the company suffered significant losses after an Internet Protocol (IP) address was allegedly sold by an individual to a competitor for personal gain.

By January 2021, the business was struggling. Profits plunged to between RM40,000 and RM80,000, and the company was on the verge of collapse.

To keep the business alive and pay employee salaries, Indera was forced to sell his personal assets.

From CEO To Having No Money For Food

The collapse of the company completely changed his life.

The former food delivery CEO said there was a period when he could barely afford to buy food and had to search for coins just to get something to eat.

“It was not easy to get back up because when I first fell, I even had to dig for coins to buy food. I also had to walk long distances because I had no transport.”

He also experienced another painful lesson during his lowest moments.

“People who were once close to me slowly started distancing themselves, perhaps because they were afraid I would ask to borrow money,” he added.

“It hurt because when I was doing well, I had helped them.”

Despite the disappointment, he eventually accepted what happened and chose to move forward.

A Food Rider’s Words Changed Everything

There were moments when Indera nearly gave up on rebuilding his life.

However, a conversation with one of his food riders gave him a new perspective.

The rider had only earned RM20 that day, yet he was extremely happy because the money allowed him to buy food for his child.

“Those words gave me motivation and hope to rise again,” he said.

The experience reminded him that even small victories can carry great meaning and that many people still depend on opportunities to earn an income.

Starting Again From The Bottom

Today, the former food delivery CEO works independently as a food rider and also takes up errands, purchasing items for people for a fee of between RM5 and RM10.

But what makes his story even more remarkable is that despite his own struggles, he continues helping others.

While delivering food, he often stops to assist people stranded on the roadside, especially those needing help with vehicle batteries and tyres.

He also encounters families facing hardship.

“I have been at the bottom and lost hope, so I do not want others to feel the same. I once met a family that had not eaten for two weeks. I am not well off either, but I try to help as much as I can.”

He said he was once advised to never let a day pass without helping someone in need, and that principle continues to guide him today.
