The Google Semarak Malaysia Fund is opening new doors for schools, NGOs, startups, cooperatives, youth groups, and community organisations that want to create meaningful impact but often struggle to secure funding or support.

Through this initiative, Google and ChangeX are offering up to RM30,000 in funding per project for community-driven initiatives focused on AI education, digital skills, entrepreneurship, sustainability, workforce development, and small business growth.

For many organisations, the challenge has never been a lack of ideas. The real challenge is usually resources, guidance, and finding the right opportunity to actually bring those ideas to life. That is what makes the Google Semarak Malaysia Fund feel especially relevant right now.

Why The Google Semarak Malaysia Fund Stands Out

Unlike many traditional grant programmes, the Google Semarak Malaysia Fund is not only focused on giving out funding.

Successful applicants may also receive step-by-step guidance, expert resources, onboarding support, and advice from the ChangeX team to help communities successfully implement their projects.

This can be extremely valuable for smaller organisations or first-time applicants that may have strong ideas but limited experience running larger community programmes.

Google explained that the initiative is meant to support the people and communities that help Selangor thrive, while empowering local leaders to take practical action on issues that matter most within their own communities.

The initiative also reflects a growing push toward grassroots innovation, especially in areas connected to digital readiness, sustainability, entrepreneurship, and future workforce development.

What The Google Semarak Malaysia Fund Is Looking For

The Google Semarak Malaysia Fund is currently prioritising projects connected to several major focus areas.

This includes workforce skilling and career pathways, projects that help small businesses grow, AI and digital training programmes, environmental initiatives related to water resilience, and sustainability or energy-focused community projects.

One of the more interesting parts of the programme is that applicants do not necessarily need to start everything from scratch.

Communities can either submit their own original project ideas or choose from existing proven ideas already available on the ChangeX platform.

Some examples already featured include entrepreneurship programmes for women, digital and financial inclusion platforms for low-income entrepreneurs, AI-focused microbusiness training, youth development initiatives, and community repair workshops aimed at reducing electronic waste while teaching practical skills.

This makes the programme feel far more accessible, especially for smaller community groups that may want to create impact but are unsure how to structure a full programme on their own.

Who Can Apply For The Funding?

The Google Semarak Malaysia Fund is open to organisations operating within Selangor, including schools, ROS-registered societies, SSM-registered businesses, cooperatives, social enterprises, and community-focused organisations.

Applicants must demonstrate a clear social mission and ensure the funding will be used for projects that directly benefit communities. Projects are also expected to be completed within 12 months of receiving funding.

At a time when discussions around AI, entrepreneurship, digital transformation, and sustainability are becoming increasingly important in Malaysia, opportunities like this could help ensure smaller communities are not left behind.

Sometimes, all a good idea needs is the right support system to finally become real impact.

Google Semarak Malaysia Fund: Applications Are Now Open

Applications for the fund are now officially open through ChangeX, with submissions closing on June 30, 2026.

For schools, NGOs, startups, cooperatives, youth groups, and community organisations that have been waiting for the right opportunity to launch a meaningful initiative, this could be the perfect time to finally turn those ideas into real community impact.
