There is positive news for young Malaysians who have been exploring the idea of starting or expanding an agribusiness but were unsure where to begin. From 2026, the government through the Kementerian Pertanian dan Keterjaminan Makanan has introduced Agropreneur NextGen, a newly rebranded programme aimed at strengthening youth participation in the agromakanan sector.
This initiative reflects a growing national shift to position agriculture as a modern, competitive, and sustainable industry, rather than a purely traditional livelihood. It also aligns with broader efforts to strengthen food security while creating viable career pathways for young Malaysians.

What Is Agropreneur NextGen 2026
Agropreneur NextGen 2026 is a government support programme designed to help young Malaysians start or scale agribusiness projects in a more structured and impactful way. The focus is on long term productivity, sustainability, and innovation, instead of short term financial relief.
The programme covers key areas across the agromakanan ecosystem, including:
- Crop production, such as vegetables, fruits, herbs, and commercial crops
- Livestock and poultry farming
- Fisheries and aquaculture
- Agro based food and downstream industries
It builds on earlier youth agro initiatives, but with clearer categories, stronger project evaluation, and a sharper focus on real economic outcomes.
How Much Support Is Available
Support under Agropreneur NextGen 2026 is provided based on the stage of the project. Young Malaysians who are starting a new agribusiness may receive assistance of up to RM30,000, while existing agropreneurs looking to expand their operations may receive support of up to RM50,000, depending on project scope and needs.
Most of the assistance is provided in the form of equipment, tools, and project related resources, ensuring that the support directly improves productivity and operational capacity rather than short term cash flow. Applications are open throughout the year and are processed via the eGAN platform.

Who Can Apply
The programme is open to Malaysian citizens within the youth age group, subject to the category applied for. For clarity, key eligibility highlights include:
- Start Up applicants aged 18 to 43 with net monthly income below RM5,000
- Scale Up applicants aged 21 to 45 with net monthly income of at least RM5,000
Projects may be carried out on owned land, rented land, Temporary Occupation Licence land, or other suitable premises approved for the relevant activity. Applicants with basic training, technical knowledge, or relevant experience in agriculture are encouraged to apply, although guidance and technical support are also part of the programme structure.
Modern and Smart Agriculture

Agropreneur NextGen 2026 places strong emphasis on modern farming practices and technology adoption. Applicants are encouraged to integrate:
- Smart farming systems and automation
- Efficient irrigation and resource management
- Digital tools that reduce operating costs and improve yields
The adoption of technologies such as drones, soil sensors, and automated systems is encouraged to help projects become more competitive, efficient, and resilient in today’s market environment.
For young Malaysians who have been waiting for the right signal to enter agribusiness, this programme may be that moment. With structured support, practical resources, and a clear focus on sustainability, Agropreneur NextGen 2026 offers more than assistance. It offers a starting point.
