When someone mentions a five-figure monthly income, most of us imagine a high-ranking executive, a successful business owner, or someone working in a multinational company. But a recent viral post revealed something entirely unexpected. A staff member at a well-known hair salon and treatment centre in Kuala Lumpur reportedly took home RM58,363.50 in a single month, a figure that completely dwarfs the job’s basic salary of RM3,000.

A Payslip That Made Malaysians Stop and Stare

The buzz began when a financial planner shared what appears to be this staff member’s payslip online.

The most shocking detail? More than RM39,000 came purely from commissions.

Along with the payslip, the poster wrote:

“Look at this payslip! Total earnings RM58,363.50!”

“This is not the CEO, this is the staff of a hair salon. Her sales commission is RM39K++.”

The salon is said to be located in a major shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur, a spot known for attracting customers willing to pay premium prices for hair treatments.

The financial planner also highlighted the challenges that come with income based heavily on commission. While the monthly total looks impressive, banks generally prefer stability over fluctuations.

According to him, bank officers usually pay far more attention to fixed income than variable earnings when assessing loan applications.

Why Are These Treatments So Expensive?

As the payslip circulated, another conversation began online; the price of services at such premium salons.

Many commenters pointed out that the packages offered are extremely costly.

One user shared a warning:

“They will ask you to pay through credit card installments. You really have to say ‘No’ right there, because just one package can exceed RM10,000.”

Another wrote:

“A lawyer who works at my company once got a hair treatment at the same mall, paying up to RM10,000 for just one session.”

Suddenly, those massive commissions didn’t seem so mysterious anymore.

What This Story Really Shows

If there’s one lesson from this viral moment, it’s this: You don’t need a fancy title to earn a high income in Malaysia.

But as the financial planner pointed out, income that rises quickly can also fluctuate dramatically,  meaning smart financial discipline is essential.

Whether this case represents an outlier or a rising trend in the premium beauty industry, one thing is certain:

Almost everyone who saw the post had the same reaction: “Wait… a salon job can make that much?”
