Tun Mahathir just turned 100, and Syed Saddiq has finally revealed the secret behind his remarkable energy, sharp mind, and unshakable calm.
It’s not some rare health supplement, a strict daily routine, or a lifelong meditation practice. It’s something far more unexpected, and honestly, kind of adorable.
It’s cat videos!
Yes, you read that right. The man who once ran the country, battled political giants, and led Malaysia through decades of transformation finds joy, laughter, and relaxation in watching cats
The Cat’s Out of the Bag

Muar MP Syed Saddiq recently shared this purr-fectly unexpected revelation in a cheeky Facebook post celebrating Tun M’s 100th birthday.
“This was taken in Parliament a few years ago. While the whole country is heating up… Tun’s just chilling, watching fearless kittens jumping around in water,” he joked.
The post came with actual photo evidence: snapshots of Tun Mahathir’s laptop screen during a Parliament session, filled with YouTube videos of fearless kittens splashing in water and adorable orange cats pulling silly faces.

The Statesman Who Shaped Malaysia
Behind the viral moment is a man whose influence over Malaysia spans generations. Tun Mahathir was born on 10 July 1925, in Alor Setar, Kedah, and trained as a medical doctor before entering politics.
Over his long career, Tun Mahathir left an indelible mark:
- Industrialisation & Modernisation: His Look East Policy pushed Malaysia to adopt the work ethic of Japan and South Korea.
- Mega Infrastructure: Under his leadership, Malaysia saw the rise of the Petronas Twin Towers, North-South Expressway, KLIA, and Putrajaya.
- Proton: He initiated the National Car Project, launching Proton in 1983 to steer the country toward manufacturing and tech.
- 1997 Crisis: While other nations turned to the IMF, Tun Mahathir implemented capital controls and fixed the ringgit, moves later praised for protecting the economy.
A Comeback at 92
Most would retire after such achievements, not Tun Mahathir. At 92, he returned to politics, led the Opposition to a stunning 2018 election victory, and became the world’s oldest prime minister.
It was a moment that shocked even global observers; a masterclass in resilience and reinvention.
What We Can Learn From Tun Mahathir

It’s easy to look at cat videos and laugh, but in the context of Tun Mahathir’s life, maybe it’s not so trivial. Amidst pressure, debates, and global crises, he’s found moments of joy and calm.
He’s taught us how to fight, how to lead, how to return from defeat, and now, how to laugh with cats.
As Syed Saddiq said:
“Happy 100th birthday, Tun. May you stay forever young.”
And perhaps, just perhaps, the rest of us should consider watching a few more cat videos too. If it works for Tun Mahathir, it just might work for us.
