In a world where opportunity often seems reserved for the able-bodied, Mohd Sukur Ibrahim is living proof that resilience, grit, and purpose can overcome even the greatest odds.
Born with stunted limbs due to dwarfism, Sukur could have easily succumbed to the expectations society had of him. But instead, he challenged the narrative, not only becoming a successful entrepreneur but emerging as a national icon for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across Malaysia.
A Life Less Ordinary: From Quiet Child to Inspirational Leader

Hailing from Sungai Udang, Melaka, and standing at just three feet tall, Sukur’s early years were filled with self-doubt. He often hid from guests and was haunted by questions like, “Why am I like this?” or “What did I do to deserve this?”
The turning point came when his father enrolled him in a community rehabilitation programme, where he encountered individuals with far greater physical challenges. It was a powerful wake-up call.
“My legs may not be that long, but I can walk,” Sukur Ibrahim said.
“I can manage myself. I have a mind that can think and five senses that work.”
Academic Choices and the Harsh Realities of Employment
When he was applying for a place in university, his lecturer at the Melaka Matriculation College advised him to take up IT as jobs in information technology are more compatible with his physical condition.
“I excelled in maths and physics and harboured an interest in engineering but he convinced me the field work and site visits would prove too challenging.
He followed the advice and graduated from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Although not passionate about IT, he found value in the discipline it taught him.
After graduation, he applied to countless government jobs, sat for the diplomatic administrative officer exam, and went to interview after interview — without success.
“My parents insisted I keep trying for the civil service. They believed in job security and steady income. But after a while, I had to let go,” Sukur recalled.
This marked the beginning of his journey into self-employment, not by choice at first, but out of necessity.
From Failure to Fortune: The Making of D Strike Solution

Like many entrepreneurs, Sukur’s success didn’t happen overnight. His first three businesses — including a stint in MLM, a laundromat, and a failed interior design partnership all collapsed.
But his fourth try changed everything.
In 2010, a former client requested urgent carpet installation services. With no business plan, no office, and no capital of his own, Sukur borrowed RM20,000 from his sister to complete the project. The client was satisfied, and Sukur returned the money.
That single job sparked the birth of D Strike Solution, a carpet installation business now based in Bangi, Selangor. Since then, he has served numerous mosques, suraus, and offices across Malaysia, steadily growing his team to five employees.
“I started small. I didn’t use grants or loans. I just kept reinvesting every bit of profit,” he said.
Turning Skepticism Into Strength
While building D Strike Solution, Sukur encountered clients who were sceptical of his abilities due to his physical appearance. Some refused to let him into their office; others cancelled deals after meeting him in person.
Yet, he never used his disability as a crutch nor a marketing gimmick.
“I don’t ask for sympathy. I work hard and let the quality of my work speak for itself,” he said. “Now, I’m seen as an equal.”
His persistence was rewarded. He was named Best Person with Disability (Entrepreneur Category) at the National PWD Celebration, and was also recognised at Reader’s Digest Inspiring Asian Award (Youth Malaysia).

Sukur is also a motivational speaker and author, sharing his story at schools, universities, and corporate events. His speeches are known to leave lasting impressions, a blend of humour, humility, and heartfelt wisdom.
A Message for Aspiring Entrepreneurs, Especially PWDs
Sukur’s story is a compelling case for self-employment among persons with disabilities. While traditional employment opportunities may be limited, entrepreneurship opens doors to independence, impact, and inspiration.
“Start by loving yourself. Accept who you are. Fake it until you make it,” he advises.
“Don’t compare your journey to others. Some arrive faster, but what matters is that you arrive.”
He also urges others to pursue education, regardless of their future plans.
“Getting a degree isn’t a waste. The discipline, skills, and connections help, whether in a job or business. With knowledge, you’re less likely to be deceived,” he said.
A Business Mind Bigger Than His Size

What makes Mohd Sukur Ibrahim stand out isn’t just that he’s an entrepreneur with dwarfism. It’s that he never let it define him.
In today’s world where excuses are plenty and risks are feared, he reminds us that even from three feet off the ground, you can reach unimaginable heights, if your heart, mind, and vision are aligned.
For every person with a dream, especially those who’ve been told “you can’t” multiple times, Sukur is the answer that says: “Yes, you can!”
