Ever curious about what a politician earns? Altimet, the State Assemblyman for Lembah Jaya, opened up on Dol’s Podcast about his paycheck, revealing he pockets up to RM16,000 each month.
This isn’t just his base salary—there’s a whole bundle of allowances included to help him manage his role.
Selangor’s Generous Salaries for Assembly Members
Chatting with hosts Shuk Sahar, Shuib, and Fizi, Altimet shared some insights into the financial rewards that come with being a state representative in Selangor. He pointed out that Selangor is in the top three when it comes to the highest-paying states for assembly members in Malaysia. It seems that Selangor really values their politicians, ensuring they’re well-compensated for their hard work.
Perks of the Job
When asked about extra benefits like cars or houses, Altimet set the record straight: those perks aren’t part of the deal. However, he and his fellow assembly members aren’t left wanting—they get access to loan facilities similar to what other government workers enjoy.
He highlighted one particular part of their compensation that underscores its practical nature.
“Part of our allowance includes a provision for a driver. The SUK (State Secretary) often advises us to ensure we hire one because the allowance is specifically allocated for that purpose. Not having a driver could even attract criticism from higher-ups,” he noted.
A Solid Vote of Confidence for YB Altimet
In the previous election, Altimet clinched the Lembah Jaya seat with an impressive 26,298 votes, comfortably defeating his opponent from the National Alliance, who managed 19,620 votes.
