The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has announced the opening of applications for three major grants to bolster the country’s digital ecosystem: the Digital Content Grant (DCG), Malaysia Digital Catalyst Grant (MDCG), and Malaysia Digital Export Grant (MDXG).
Digital Content Grant (DCG)
MDEC offers three types of grants under DCG:
- Mini Grant: Up to RM150,000 to support early-stage digital content projects. This grant is perfect for individual creators or small companies starting to explore digital content creation. It covers the early phases like concept development, production, and testing.
- Prime Grant: Up to RM500,000 for more comprehensive projects. MDEC aims to support companies with larger production needs, enabling them to scale their operations, enhance content quality, and tackle complex projects with advanced technologies.
- Marketing & Commercialisation Grant: Up to RM300,000 for market entry and scaling efforts. It targets companies ready to commercialize their digital content, focusing on strategic market launches, promotional campaigns, and enhancing product visibility.
Malaysia Digital Catalyst Grant (MDCG)
The Malaysia Digital Catalyst Grant (MDCG) is created to drive the development and implementation of innovative, disruptive solutions within the Malaysia Digital (MD) promoted sectors, aligning with the National 4th Industrial Revolution policy. This MDEC grant focuses on supporting projects that involve co-creation, problem-solving, and the commercialization of new technologies in partnership with end-users.
Funding and Eligibility:
- For Local Companies: Up to 50% of the total project cost, capped at RM1,000,000, with a project duration of up to one year.
- For Majority Foreign-Owned Companies: Up to 30% of the total project cost, capped at RM1,000,000, also with a project duration of up to one year.
Malaysia Digital Export Grant (MDXG)
The Malaysia Digital X-Port Grant (MDXG) is designed to support Malaysian technology companies that are ready to expand their presence in the global market. This MDEC grant encourages the export of high-value digital products and services, focusing on market-driven, innovative, and sustainable solutions.
The key objectives of the MDXG are to help Malaysian tech companies penetrate international markets, drive the development and commercialization of disruptive products, and elevate the global branding of Malaysian digital solutions, positioning them as leaders in their industries.
Funding and Eligibility:
- Local Companies: Up to 50% of project costs or RM1 million, whichever is lower.
- Foreign-Owned Companies: Up to 30% of project costs or RM1 million, with headquarters in Malaysia.
Eligibility and Application Process
Both MDCG and MDXG are available to companies with Malaysia Digital (MD) status, providing them with prioritized access to MDEC’s support network and enhanced visibility within the digital ecosystem. Companies without MD status are encouraged to apply, as attaining this status opens doors to further support and collaboration opportunities.
Applications for all three grants are open from 9 September 2024, and will remain open until the allocated funds are fully committed. MDEC encourages eligible companies to apply early to take full advantage of these growth opportunities.
