The Malaysian government has taken a significant step towards reviving the country’s tourism industry with the launch of the Grant for the Support of the Tourism Sector (GSSP) 2024 program.
By offering substantial grants, GSSP 2024 empowers event organisers to develop innovative programs and activities that cater to a diverse range of interests. Here’s a comprehensive look at what this grant entails and how it aims to revitalise Malaysia’s tourism landscape.
Scope:
- Programs and events hosted within Malaysia are eligible for support under the GSSP 2024.
- The initiative seeks to attract interstate participation, generate domestic and international tourism movement, and provide tangible benefits to the tourism industry.
- All proposed programs and events must be executed within the calendar year of 2024 to be eligible for consideration.
Permissible programs/events:
- Tourism programs/events with interstate elements within Malaysia are encouraged.
- Tourism exhibitions (travel fairs) focusing on the sale of domestic packages are eligible for support.
- Niche events that incorporate elements of tourism and can attract participation from within and outside the country are welcomed.
- The organisation of sporting events is LIMITED to recreation, carnival, folk sports and lifestyle that have an impact on the tourism industry and the local socioeconomics.
Fund allocation:
- Domestic programs or events with socioeconomic impact can receive funding up to a maximum ceiling of RM500,000.
- High-impact international initiatives, involving at least 20% foreign visitors from at least five different countries, can receive up to RM1,000,000.
Applicants:
- The application is open to local private companies and organizations (Non-Tourism Agent Status), government-linked companies (GLC), subsidiaries under state government, and local non-governmental associations/organizations (NGOs).
- Organisations interested in applying for the GSSP 2024 must submit a complete application form and proposal paper to the Secretariat at least 30 days before the scheduled program or event.
- The application period runs from 2 May until 30 November 2024 with approved programs and events scheduled to take place between 1 June until 31 December 2024.
- Ongoing or past programs and events are not eligible for funding under the GSSP 2024.
- The medium of allocation for the grant is reimbursement.
