At HAUNTU, fear meets history in an exciting blend of live theatre, interactive role-play, and spine-chilling storytelling. This super-immersive experience offers participants a unique chance to step into the shoes of characters from different eras of Malaysian history. With each step, the participants take on roles that immerse them in the narrative and deepen their connection to the experience.
HAUNTU is the latest addition to their roster of experiential offerings. Superdough, known for its Breakout escape room outlets worldwide, established its foothold in the entertainment industry back in 2014. However, it wasn’t until 2018 that they unveiled HAUNTU, Southeast Asia’s first fully immersive horror experience, taking the region by storm.
It all started when Johnny Ong, one of the co-founders and Head of Operations and Experience Design, embarked on a life-changing journey when he experienced his first escape room during a work assignment in China. Witnessing the booming escape room trend there sparked an idea in his mind – to bring this captivating form of live entertainment to Malaysia.
Upon returning home, Johnny shared his idea with Kelly Low, one of the co-founders and Head of Business Development. Together, fueled by their deep passion for innovation and adventure, they embarked on this journey to create something fresh and exciting for Malaysians to enjoy, breaking away from the typical cinema and dining outings.
In 2014, Breakout was born, which marks the beginning of an epic journey into the realm of live entertainment. Over the next decade, their dedicated team managed to transform their venture into an empire, captivating audiences with immersive experiences that redefine the boundaries of entertainment.
Cheah Ka Wai, the Head of Marketing and one of the co-founders, emphasised their dedication to providing unforgettable, spine-chilling experiences through immersive storytelling. According to a recent survey conducted by the company, a significant 44.44% of respondents actively seek out horror-themed activities, perfectly aligned with what Hauntu has to offer.
Additionally, the survey revealed that more than half of the respondents emphasised the importance of a compelling narrative, indicating a strong appetite for immersive storytelling within the horror community.
When asked about advice for aspiring entertainment business owners, Ka Wai emphasised the significance of customer feedback. He stressed the importance of continuously listening to customer opinions and integrating their feedback into business operations.
Moreover, he added that no business is flawless and constant improvement based on customer input is key to success. Ultimately, he highlighted the crucial role customers play in determining the quality of the experience, urging entrepreneurs to prioritise their needs and preferences as they expand their businesses.
What are you waiting for, horror enthusiasts? The time has come to immerse yourselves in spine-tingling thrills and chilling excitement!
