We’re not trying to brag, but it’s true – Malaysian cuisine is rated as one of the top 40 best cuisines in the world out of 95 countries, surpassing neighbouring countries like Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand. Among the highly-rated local foods is our favourite staple, roti canai, which received an impressive rating of 4.9 out of 5.
Whenever we travel, we always have a special place in our hearts for our comforting local cuisine. Many Malaysians who have migrated to other countries are eager to introduce our food to foreigners, and they often receive positive feedback.
There is an interesting story that supports the claim that Malaysian food is the best! Two Malaysian Indians living in China have caught the attention of locals by selling roti canai.
In a video shared by @anthraxxx on X, a Chinese local is seen buying Roti Canai Banana and engaging in a witty conversation with the Malaysian Indians. The duo, originally from Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur, are brothers-in-law who have been living in China for over a year.
Surprisingly, both of them can fluently speak the Chongqing dialect. In the video, they are selling roti pisang (roti canai with banana stuffing) for 25 yuan, approximately RM16.
They are shown enjoying interacting with customers, cracking jokes, and warmly answering their questions. One of them mentioned that he has been selling roti canai for over 5 years (possibly in Malaysia before moving to China).
Many netizens were surprised by the price of a piece of roti canai and expressed their thoughts that they could easily make money by selling roti canai there.
Anyways, we are truly delighted to see Malaysians making an effort to introduce local cuisines to foreigners. Keep it up!
