We previously covered a Malaysian couple selling satay in Perth and the local hype they received. This time, we came across a TikTok video by a Malaysian residing in the United Kingdom named Marhaidi Hanafi. In the video clip, Marhaidi captured the vibrant atmosphere of a morning market in Liverpool, and to our surprise, a local Malaysian runs a kuih stall at the market!
In Marhaidi Hanafi’s TikTok video, the fellow Malaysian who sells Kuih is named Dr. Syikin. While the video is playing, it is heard that Dr. Syikin is trying to explain to her customers each of the authentic local Kuih she sells. The video clearly showed that the customer ended up buying quite a few pieces of kuih muih.
Some of the other Kuih she sells include caramel sponge, lemon sponge, banana fritters, curry puffs, along with Nasi Lemak, and much more.
Each piece of kuih is priced around GBP1 or approximately RM6
Surprisingly locals love banana lollipops so much!
Netizens in the comment section asked which Kuih is the most popular, and surprisingly, it’s the banana lollipop or banana fritter. Some even suggested Kuih that Dr. Syikin should try selling next, and the list includes Roti Jala and Cucur Udang.
Her stall is making waves among locals and has garnered thousands of views and shares. Some even commented that they will definitely visit once they’re in Liverpool.
Marhaidi stated in the video that Dr. Syikin opens her stall at Granby Street Market, Liverpool (near the Malaysian community house) every first Saturday of the month from 10 AM to 3 PM.
Please continue to make us proud, Dr. Syikin, with your delightful and authentic kuih muih, and most importantly, banana fritters!
