The Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development, through Perbadanan Nasional Bhd (Pernas) and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Malaysia International Franchise Sdn Bhd (MyFranchise), is poised to invest approximately RM62 million in an expansive growth strategy for Gloria Jean’s Coffees and 1901 Frankfurters.
This strategic initiative encompasses the establishment of 50 new Gloria Jean’s Coffees outlets and the opening of 100 branches of 1901 Frankfurters from this year to 2029.
According to Datuk Ewon Benedick, the Minister of Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development (KUSKOP), this initiative aims to foster the systematic and structured growth of the franchise entrepreneurship ecosystem in alignment with the finalization of the National Franchise Entrepreneur Development Policy 2030 (D-PUF 2030).
Datuk Ewon Benedick emphasized that the ambitious plan for both brands is projected to yield a total annual sales return of RM1.8 million for Gloria Jean’s Coffee and RM600,000 for 1901 Frankfurters. Furthermore, he also highlighted that this expansion plan is expected to generate up to 900 job opportunities within five years, contributing to economic growth and job creation.
This substantial investment aligns with the government’s goal of achieving a target franchise sales value of RM100 billion by 2030, aiming to open up new opportunities and enhance entrepreneurial potential in Malaysia.
“I hope this move would simulate community interest in franchise entrepreneurship, thus contributing towards the achievement of the Madani Government’s aspirations to improve the quality of life and the national economy,” he said.
Benedick further affirmed the Ministry’s unwavering support for Pernas’s initiatives, particularly in driving franchise entrepreneurship and elevating it to a high-value business sector.
