A recent report from the Bank of Korea reveals that nearly four million jobs in South Korea could be replaced by artificial intelligence (AI) technology within the next two decades. The rise of AI has sparked global concerns, ranging from job losses to potential cyber threats and even fears of humans losing control over the systems they’ve created.
The new study by the Bank of Korea, identifies 3.9 million jobs in South Korea, with professionals such as doctors, lawyers, accountants, and chemists facing the highest risk of being replaced as AI adoption accelerates domestically. The report also highlights that high-income workers with extensive academic backgrounds are particularly vulnerable to AI displacement.
Undoubtedly, white-collar jobs, known for their analytical and cognitive tasks, are most susceptible to AI takeover, the study notes. Surprisingly, those in religious fields, food services, and teaching are least likely to lose their jobs to advancing technology, providing a rare silver lining.
However, the report also points out new opportunities, especially in engineering roles responsible for developing and maintaining AI systems. Yet, it warns that these new positions are concentrated in specific fields, potentially causing difficulties for workers transitioning in the face of AI’s relentless introduction.
Will AI replace all the jobs in Malaysia too in the next 20 years?
