Loob Holding, the leading local tea beverage brand, Tealive, has officially commenced the operations of its new and modern “boba” or tapioca pearl factory in Kapar, Selangor. The founder and Chief Executive Officer, Bryan Loo, stated that this strategic move, involving an initial investment of RM10 million, aligns with Loob’s vision and commitment to excellence, transformation, and innovation in the beverage industry in Malaysia and globally.
“As a Malaysian corporate entity, Loob Holding believes in reinvesting locally to help make Malaysia a centre of excellence in the food and beverage industry. With the support of our partners from China, we are also contributing to attracting foreign direct investment (FDI),” said Loo.
He emphasized that the one-acre tapioca pearl factory in Kapar, Selangor, is a bold step towards realizing this vision, showcasing Tealive’s dedication to contributing to Malaysia’s economic growth and the success of innovation in the beverage segment.
“Tealive’s mission is to create the best experience for all customers through high-quality drinks, including our signature tapioca pearls known as “boba”. The construction of this tapioca pearl factory aligns with our efforts to achieve excellence.”
“By controlling the entire production process, from sourcing the best ingredients to producing our special tapioca pearls, Tealive ensures that each of our drinks reflects perfection in quality and taste.“
“We will continue further investments, such as installing fully automated packaging technology next year,” he added.
The factory has a production capacity of 400 tons of boba per month, making it one of the largest factories in Malaysia
Loo mentioned that the partners Zhejiang Boduo International Trade Co Ltd and Shanghai Panfei International Trade Co Ltd have been loyal suppliers supporting Tealive since its launch in 2017.
“After about two years and Tealive’s rapid growth, we proposed the idea to them of producing tapioca pearls in Malaysia. We quickly agreed to collaborate and planned to start the factory’s operations in 2020, but progress was hindered after the pandemic struck. Despite facing challenges of movement control orders (MCO) in China and Malaysia during the pandemic, we managed to overcome it all, and the factory is now operational.”
He also shared that they are planning to expand the market by exporting boba to other regional countries – starting with the Philippines.
“Tealive, a Malaysian-born brand, is ready to share our special tapioca pearls with the world. This success enables us to export locally-made tapioca pearls worldwide.
Loob Holding, founded in 2010 by Bryan Loo, is a leading beverage company with four brands: Tealive, Bask Bear, Soda Xpress, and WonderBrew Kombucha.
