At first, Azarol aspired to become a pilot, but due to eyesight problems, he pursued a course in Mechanical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
After obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree in 1995, Azarol worked for the Hyundai Corporation under their heavy industries division. He was also a Project Engineer at Unimasco, an oil & gas outfit and an Estimating Engineer at Cleveland Bridge UK-EON, a steel fabrication company.
At the age of 32, he was determined to quit his job and established his own company, Astra Simfoni Sdn. Bhd – which later became an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) supplying equipment to several automotive companies, namely Proton, Mitsubishi, and Perodua.
He was inspired by successful disruptive business models pioneered by companies like Uber, Airbnb, Grab and Foodpanda
According to him, the initial idea for establishing Bateriku.com emerged as early as 2010. However, he couldn’t execute it due to his main focus on his company, Astra Simfoni Sdn Bhd. So, the idea was buried.
After 10 years in the business, he realised the changes in technology and was driven by successful disruptive business models such as Uber, Airbnb and many more. Hence, the concept of Bateriku.com was revived.
He realised the vehicle battery supply industry has seen little or no changes over the decade in Malaysia. Azarol explained that usually, batteries are replaced when customers bring their vehicles to workshops for regular servicing or only when users experience a battery failure. He knows that he can do something to disrupt the industry.
He then worked out a business plan that set Bateriku.com different from others
At Bateriku.com, they offer services that no other companies have done before. They provide a second opinion before users decide to replace their car battery. Besides, they also offer on-site free inspections of the battery, alternator, and vehicle’s electrical system.
