Deputy Local Government Development Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir just launched the new Laman Selera MPAJ @ Ampang Jaya and the first integrated anaerobic digestion (AD) plant in the country.
Akmal said the AD plant was part of KPKT’s Green initiative of tackling excessive food waste in the food court area by processing food waste into liquid fertiliser and biogas.

The machine is provided by the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) and managed by the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ). The AD plant will process waste from 65 food premises, four hotels and a hospital in the Ampang Jaya area.
“Since the AD started operations in July last year, it has produced 19,120 litres of liquid compost from 35,000kg of food waste,” he said.
The food court has 17 stalls, six kiosks, and car parks, among other facilities. As part of the launch, traders would get a three-month rent exemption.
Also present during the launch were the state local government committee chairman Ng Sze Han, state housing, urban well-being and entrepreneur development committee chairman and Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail, Deputy Secretary General (Management and Development) Muhammad Razman bin Abu Samah as well as MPAJ president Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim.
