The time all Malaysians have waited for a long period has arrived – it’s election day. More than 21 million Malaysians will be eligible to vote in the 15th General Election (GE15) this 19 November.
So, whether you’re voting for the first time or a seasoned voter in need of a quick refresher, here’s a quick rundown of what the GE15 voting process will look like.
A step-by-step guide on what to do on voting day

- Firstly, make sure you check your voting station beforehand to avoid any inconvenience. Don’t forget to bring your NRIC. Clerks on duty have the right to deny your entry if you fail to bring your IC (you can also bring a temporary IC, Malaysian passport, or driver’s license)
- As you’ve arrived at the voting station, you may enter the polling stream when the police allow you to do so.
- Submit your National Registration Identification Card (NRIC) along with the registration slip or a screenshot of your MySPR Electoral Roll details. Then, the clerk will verify that your name is on the electoral roll and that your identity matches the given NRIC.
- The clerk will need you to show both sides of your hands for a final examination before they verify your queue number, NRIC, and full name out loud.
- After returning your NRIC to you, a second voting clerk will dip your left index finger in the indelible ink.
- Then, a third voting clerk will give you the folded ballot papers.
- Next, you may head to the next table and leave your mobile phone in the designated spot on the table for safekeeping.
- Proceed to the voting station and make sure your ballot papers are in good condition before casting your vote
- Follow all instructions placed in the ‘Petak Undi’. Mark ‘X’ for one candidate only. If you made a mistake in marking or noticed an error in the given ballot paper, you can request another one.
- Put your ballot papers in the correct box (Parliament and State Legislative Assembly)
- Retrieve your mobile phone at the counter and leave the voting station immediately.
