If you are a first-time voter in your early 20s, you may be nervous and confused with a lot of information to comprehend. Well, that’s okay because you are not alone. Before you decide which candidate and which political party you want to vote for, make sure you know the important details first to prepare you for the big day.
Have you gotten to know your polling station, the best time to go and all of the candidate representatives of your area yet? In this article, we will share all the important details to prepare you for election day.
Download the MySPR Semak app now to check your GE15 polling location
If you’re a first-time voter and you are unsure of your polling station, you can check your details in MySPR Semak app. Simply click on the “Semakan Daftar Pemilih” section.
The app will then direct you to a page where you have to fill in your IC number and click “Semak”. It would automatically show you all the details you need in order to vote.
On the page, you can see your polling station under “Pusat Mengungi”, and your “Saluran” number to indicate whether you are OKU (Saluran 1 is reserved for OKU), young voters (usually Saluran 4) and so on. Besides, SPR would also suggest the recommended time for you to cast your vote to prevent traffic at the station.
Besides, MySPR Semak app also lets you check the candidate representatives of your area
If you’re not sure all of the candidates in your area, you can go to “Main Menu” click “Semakan Calon Pilihan Raya” and click the button “GE15”. As you can see, you can see the details of candidates for Parlimen and another one for DUN.
To check, simply select the state and pick your area’s state (refer to the details provided under “Maklumat Daftar Pemilih Disahkan”). For instance, if you’re voting in Perak, then click Perak. You can then pick the polling area.
The portal will then list out all the candidates you can vote for including which parties they represent. If you need more information about the candidates, you may search for the candidates online.
The do’s and don’ts of voting
It’s a requirement to bring your MyKad and present it to officials at the polling station. This is to verify your identity and to ensure you are a Malaysian citizen. Please bring the original MyKad and not a photocopy.
Based on the latest information, you are required to pass your mobile phone to the officials at the polling station and you can collect it back once you’ve done casting your vote. Make sure you put your mobile phone on silent. Please note that wearing clothes that represent or are associated with a political party is prohibited.
Another important piece of information is to make sure you double-check your ballot paper. Make sure your ballot papers are not ripped, or marked in error. If you find any issue, ask for help from the officials.
We hope this informative article can give you a clearer idea of what to expect during voting day.
