Datin Dian Lee, a businesswoman who is the founder of Clearwater Group – an award-winning boutique property development company has recently joined the Malaysian United Democratic Party (Muda). Her involvement in politics has sparked contorversy where people associate her with her father; property tycoon Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew.
She hopes that people won’t associate her with her father and wants to be seen as her own person with her own passion and strengths. Here’s a few interesting facts about Datin Dian Lee:
1. She’s the daughter of property tycoon Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew
His father is one of Malaysia’s most successful entrepreneur. Lee Kim Yew is the founder of The Mines Resort and Country Heights Holdings – which has interests in property development, health, hospitality and education. He is also a notable philanthropist – actively helping people where he launched Bantu-Bantu Malaysia, a non-profit social intiative in 2020. Under his initiative, he has distributed more than 8 million masks to frontliners and additional medical supplies such as ventilators, safety googles, surgical gowns and masks to various government and private hospitals. Not only that, he also distributed 30,000 hampers to food banks, NGOs and many more.
After more than 30 years in property, Lee announced that he was stepping down as Country Heights Holdings Bhd to pursue his interest in cryptocurrencies.
2. Dian Lee is one of the youngest property developers in Malaysia
Dian Lee was only 22 when she founded The Clearwater Group – an award-winning boutique property development company. The Clearwater Group builds boutique homes that blend traditional development with the needs of the digital urbanite.
She also co-owns several trendy eateries,Ploy, Babe, and Way Modern Chinois and now branching out into other health-conscious directions. She spends a large portionn of her time teaching yoga, meditation and mindful living at the wellness center she and her husband founded called Be Urban Wellness in Kuala Lumpur.
3. As a mother of three children, she was very passionate about issues related to children
Dian Lee who was awarded Malaysia’s Most Promising Young Woman of the year in 2007 by Malaysia Tatler was very passionate about issues related to children, including stateless children and malnutrition. With her involvement in politics, she hopes she can address issues related to children. Commenting about her decision to join Muda, she said she want to serve the people and develop the party.
4. Recently, she joined a political party Muda
The entrepreneur-activist Datin Dian Lee shared the reason why she joined Muda in December last year is because she finds that the party’s principles are in line with her own. She wants to be seen as independent, not overshadowed by father. She is now the party’s central executive committee member. She commented “”Everytime I want to do something, not just now (joining Muda) but throughout my life, people would bring him into it. I hope that people will see me as an independent person,” she said.
