The government has decided to reopen 11 economic activities in states under Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) effective Monday 16 August 2021. Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said in a statement released on his Facebook page the loosened curbs follow early positive signs that the national immunisation programme was bearing fruit.
He said that the admission rate of Covid-19 patients to hospitals across all age groups has begun to decline. Data also showed the situation at hospital emergency departments in the Klang Valley has improved. Hence, the government has decided to allow more businesses to ease restrictions in the economic sector effective today.
In states under Phase 1, 11 types of businesses to be reopened are car wash, electrical and electronic, home and kitchen appliances, furniture, sports equipment, car accessories, car distributors and showrooms, morning markets and farmers’ markets, clothing and fashion, jewellery, salons, beauty shops and barbers (only for haircuts).
Under Phase 2, the 11 businesses allowed to resume operations are photo and photo services, used goods, florists and nurseries, crafts and souvenirs, antiques, toys, carpet, creative content and creative industry accessories, outdoor gadgets, cosmetic, skincare and perfume, and tobacco including vape and e-cigarettes.
Several industry players thanked the government for listening to them and allowing more sectors to be reopened in states under Phase 1. However, they suggested the government tightening the SOPs.
This relaxation can only be enjoyed by those who have completed their vaccination program. Premise operators must ensure the customers show their Covid-19 digital vaccination certificates.
