Wan Lokman Wan Haron is earning a five-figure income by growing pineapples. It was a venture that he started around three years ago after graduating from Universiti Malaysia Kelantan in Agro-Industry and Natural Resources course. Wan Lokman said it was not an easy venture as it required a lot of hard work and patience as it takes years to grow pineapples.

His 10 acres pineapple farm in Kampung Chuchuh Puteri, Kuala Krai, Kelantan can produce around seven tonnes of yields per season. Wan Lokman started growing the pineapples on abandoned agricultural land back in 2018 after his family members recommended him to do so.
He started with a capital of around RM 30,000 from my family’s savings. He was very careful about the cost and doing it by stages – starting from acquiring the pineapples seedlings, propagate and growing.

He grows two types of pineapples – Madu Kaca and MD2. The Madu Kaca variety is sold for RM2.50 per KG while the MD2 variety is sold at RM4 per KG. He said the price per KG for the Madu Kaca pineapple retails at around RM3.50 to RM5 while the MD2 pineapple can reach up to RM5 to RM8 per KG – depending on the current market. The MD2 pineapple is highly sought after because of its sweet taste, juicier and high in fibre.
Wan Lokman shared that the experience of studying agro agriculture has helped him a lot in making agriculture his source of income. He has proven that this course can provide lucrative income if one puts in the effort and commitment.
“I also plan to diversify by cultivating durian, vegetable and several other crops in the future. I have hopes to make Kampung Chuchuh Puteri one of the premium pineapple producers in Kuala Krai,”
