Recently, the were a controversy surrounding J&T Express following allegations of a pay cut that sparked a strike by employees. The courier service went viral due to the leaks of rioting videos happening at J&T Express Malaysia warehouse. A short clip showed J&T workers throwing parcels while protesting followed by another riot in a Perak warehouse – showed mountains of unattended parcels and unloaded delivery trucks.
According to the J&T workers, they were protesting against the change in the commission system – which they said the management has drastically reduced the commission rate of a delivery rider. Besides that, J&T delivery rider needs to achieve the KPIs in order to get the commission which is unfair.

A video by TikTok user, Muhammad Afiq Sazali who is a J&T delivery rider showed that the courier service faced a drastic decline in business after the controversy.
In the TikTok video, he said usually there would be 100 to 150 pacels delivered in a day. After the recent incident, there are only 20 to 30 items to be delivered.
His TikTok video garnered over 1.4 million views and over 10,000 comments. Some people have also reposted the video across different social media platforms.

According to SAYS, Muhammad Afiq said that it is the reality faced by him and other fellow J&T delivery drivers following the protest and riot. Due to the staff mishandled the parcels and also delay in delivery, netizens called for a boycott of the company.
“Before this, I would send out at least 100 parcels a day. After the incident, it really affected my work. However, the business has been picking up slowly, but it is still is not as good as it used to be before.”
He added that they are predicting things will get better in time, especially due to the future of e-commerce promotions in March in Shopee and Lazada.
