Captain Rohana Jupri has made history to become the first woman to be promoted to the rank of First Admiral (Laksamana Pertama) in the Royal Malaysian Navy.
The 57-year-old navy was among four senior officers promoted in a ceremony at naval headquarters in KD Sri Gombak in Jalan Padang Tembak launched by Commander Admiral Tan Sri Mohd Reza Mohd Sany.
According to Tan Sri Mohd Reza Mohd Sany, Commander Admiral of the Royal Malaysian Navy, in the Navy’s 86-year history, not a single woman has been promoted to the rank and this is an achievement for Rohana.
Rohana was responsible for the acquisition of important assets in determining Ops Benteng could be implemented more efficiently
The Commander Admiral of the Royal Malaysian Navy said the promotion proved that Roana’s ability was recognised by the top management at the Royal Malaysian Navy as well as a sign of appreciation for her efforts in her years of service.
She is originally from Tanjong Karang, Selangor and joined the Royal Malaysian Navy on December 20, 1984. The mother of four children has held several positions including commanding officer of KD Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah, Staff Officer 1 Women’s Affairs of the Malaysian Armed Forces and commanding officer of the Western Naval Supply Depot.
Besides, she was also responsible for the acquisition of important assets in determining Ops Benteng could be implemented more efficiently. All her achievements indirectly placed her on par with the top line-up of the Admiral Committee (JLAKS) previously pioneered by men. Rohana expressed her gratitude and said the promotion was a big recognition for her in her service in the RMN.
