MR DIY, Malaysia’s largest home improvement retailer has been able to maintain and grow their workforce to support the Malaysian economy. The home improvement retailer is placing greater emphasis on human resource development and strives to continuously develop qualified employees.
MR DIY offers two training programmes – Supervisor Apprentice Programme and Manager Apprentice Programme
Its chairman Datuk Azlam Shah Alias said the retailer provides its employees with two main training programmes – the Supervisor Apprentice Programme (SAP) and Manager Apprentice Programme (MAP) to help maintain the quality of employee-customer interactions.
He further explained that MR DIY started SAP in 2018 and MAP recently this year to train people with the right attitude with hard and soft skills and leadership to enable them to manage the store and customers properly. With the programmes mentioned, candidate can be developed to become a good employee.
Currently, the company has trained 532 employees under the SAP and 12 for MAP
Furthermore, with the programmes, all MR DIY employees are able to carry out their duties and responsibilities at the same time in line with the company’s vision.
MR DIY has over 10,000 employees nationwide and 85% of them are Malaysians. Currently, the company has trained 532 employees under the SAP and 12 employees for MAP.
One of success story that he shared was one of the employees who was unemployed for months after graduating applied for the SAP programme and was successfully trained from trainee to supervisor, assistant manager and finally to branch manager in just three years. He is now managing 13 stores.
The duration for SAP is three months while MAP is six months
MR DIY welcomes any individuals to join the programme if they are interested. The duration for the Supervisor Apprentice Programme is three months while the Manager Apprentice Programme is six months.
MR DIY received good response from the recruitment campaign and has successfully hired 1,000 employees. This includes more than 600 unemployed Malaysians, 200 fresh graduates and a few disabled people.
