1. Robert Kuok
Robert Kuok is the richest man in Malaysia and the legendary businessman takes the top spot again in Forbes Malaysia Rich List 2020 with a net worth of US$11.5 billion. He has been topping the list for nearly two decades now. Besides, he’s also ranked number 104 in Forbes’s Billionaires 2019.
The 96-year-old billionaire owns Kuok Group and his business ventures range from sugarcane plantations, sugar refineries, flour milling, animal feed, oil, mining, finance, property, trading, freight, publishing. He also owns hotel which is Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts.
Robert Kuok has a Bachelor or Arts/Science from Raffles College and started his journey in business as an office boy until he built his own business empire.
2. Tan Sri Quek Leng Chan
The 78-year-old businessman Tan Sri Quek Leng Chan is the executive chairman of Hong Leong Co. one of largest banks in Malaysia. He’s much involved in finance, property, food and manufacturing. His net worth stands at US$9.7 billion apart putting him at number 2 in Forbes’ Malaysia’s 50 Richest 2020. Quek Leng Chan was also ranked number 149 in Forbes’s Billionaires 2019.
Quek Leng Chan is actually a lawyer in practice who today is the Chairman and CEO of the group -Hong Leong Co. He is a qualified barrister-at-law from Middle Temple, UK. The business tycoon is known to be quite a gambler, where he is not afraid to take risks.
3. Tan Sri Ananda Krishnan
Billionaire Tan Sri Ananda Krishnan is Malaysia’s third-richest person. His net worth is US$5.9 billion. He is the CEO of Usaha Tegas Group Holdings, a stakeholder in Maxis and Bumi Armada. Ananda Krishnan is Harvard Business School grand and former oil-trader.
His business ventures span across industries such as entertainment, sports, media, marketing, advertising and telecommunications. He is a huge supporter of education and the arts, providing scholarships and even financed the 1985 Live Aid concert.
4. Tan Sri Dr. Chen Lip Keong
Tan Sri Dr Chen Lip has a net worth of US$5.3 billion. He is the CEO of NagaCorp – the parent company of NagaWorld which is a casino resort complex in Phnom Penh. The company is the largest casino resort in IndoChina. The company is in the midst of developing a casino resort in Russia as well.
The self-made billionaire is ranked as 4th richest man in Malaysia by Forbes 2020 and number 355 in Forbes’ Billionaires 2019.
Apart from casinos, he also ventures into property and energy sectors. He started out as a medical doctor after graduating from University Malaya.
5. Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Teh Hong Piow
Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Teh Hong is ranked number 5 in Forbes’s Malaysia’s 50 Richest 2020 and number 233 in Forbes’ Billionaires 2019 with a net worth of US$4.85 billion.
He is the founder and ex-chairman of Public Bank Berhad. As a banker, he started Public Bank in 1966 when he was just 35 years old. He then had retired and is now non-executive chairman of the bank.
His journey in entrepreneurship started as a clerk at the Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Ltd and had worked with Malayan Banking Berhad as a manager.
