The Malaysian Government has approved the Bantuan Prihatin Elektrik Tambahan (BPE) initiative as announced by Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah which offers additional RM 942 mil worth of discounts and rebates for domestic electricity users.
This BPE package will give some relief for TNB consumers for their electricity bills higher than usual during the movement control order (MCO) period from April until June this year. The rebates and discounts will benefit 7.66 million households.
Free electricity for consumers that use 300kWh and below
Under BPE, consumers that use 300kWh and below will enjoy free electricity for the month of April, May and June 2020.
For consumers that utilise more than 300kWh per month, they will receive a flat rebate of RM 77 for the month of April, May and June 2020. Meaning, they will receive a discount of RM 231 for their electricity bill for from April until June.
Here’s the breakdown for clearer explanation:
- Domestic consumers with monthly electricity consumption of 300 kWh and below will enjoy free electricity for April to June 2020.
- Domestic consumers with monthly electricity consumption exceeding 300 kWh from April to June 2020 will get an RM 77 discount per month.
- Domestic consumers with monthly electricity consumption of between 601 to 900 kWh will also enjoy a 10% discount from April to September 2020, which is an additional 8% discount from the previously announced 2% discount.
The discounts and rebates will be reflected in the July bill
According to the TNB website, it is stated that all domestic TNB consumers are automatically eligible for the BPE, with the rebates and discounts to be reflected in your July 2020 electricity bill.
For those who have already paid their bills over the 3-month period will see the excess amount credited into their July 2020 bill.
TNB give costumers the option to pay electricity bills in installments
TNB has introduces the Easy Payment Plan, where household customers have the option to pay outstanding electricity bills in installments without any additional surcharge, until December 2020.
Furthermore, they will not impose any late payment charges and have halted all electricity disconnection activities until September 30, 2020.
