Putrajaya is in the process of distributing free face masks to Malaysians nationwide. Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that the masks would be distributed to those who display flu-like symptoms – as per recommendations by the Ministry of Health (MOH).
Free four face masks to each household nationwide
“As announced by the government, the government will distribute for free four face masks to each household nationwide, and as was recommended by MOH, only those who have symptoms must wear it.
The 24.2 million masks are in the process of being distributed by Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM). The masks will then be distributed to MKN in the states followed by the National Disaster Management Agency’s committees to districts.
The masks would be flown via special charter by the Royal Malaysian Air Force to those inn Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan by this Friday, April 10.
The masks were not donated by any parties
Dato Seri Ismail Sabri said that the masks were not donated by any parties but bought by the government, especially for the people. Previously, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin announced that the government will purchase and bear the price per piece at around RM 1.18. The free masks differ from the recently announced 10 mil face masks shipped from China as they are meant for the Health Ministry frontliners.
High demand for face masks
Since the Covid-19 outbreak, local pharmacies were not able to stock up on masks as there were not adequate supply for local needs. In average, pharmacy sold around 100 boxes of masks daily – double the usual demand due to panic buying.
However, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said the face mask stock at outlets nationwide will be replenished soon. “We will ensure there is enough supply for the people soon.”
