From 15 Januar 2020, all eligible Malaysians will receive RM30 digital incentive as announced by the government. The initiative is called e-Tunai Rayat and it is a way to encourage e-wallet usage in the country. The government allocates RM450mil for this e-Tunai Rakyat incentive. What is the purpose of e-Tunai Rakyat initiative?
e-Tunai Rakyat is a government initiative aims to encourage Malaysians to adopt cashless and digital payments, eWallet which are safer and more secure. The RM30 digital incentive will benefit 15 million eligible Malaysians.
Khazanah Nasional Berhad has been appointed to facilitate and coordinate the initiative and they will be working closely with the National Registration Department and the Inland Revenue Board.
Who is eligible for e-Tunai Rakyat?
The e-Tunai Rakyat initiative is given to all Malaysians aged 18 years and above as of 31 December 2020 with an earning less than RM100,000 in the year 2018.
It is not specifically mentioned whether the recipient must be working or not to receive this incentive. It seems likely that students, retirees and the unemployed also eligible to enjoy the benefit as long as they fit the criteria.
How to receive the e-Tunai Rakyat incentive?
At the moment, Touch ‘n Go (TNG) eWallet, Boost and GrabPay are the three official eWallet partners for the e-Tunai Rakyat initiative. To receive the RM30 credit, you must have an eWallet account with a supported provider and the account must be verified with your IC number. You can choose to receive your RM30 credit from any one of these eWallets.
Is it possible to claim the RM30 incetive from more than one eWallet?
Unfortunately, you can’t. Once you have received the RM30 incentive from one eWallet that you have selected, any applications through other eWallets will be rejected.
When can you redeem the RM30?
The initiative will be running from 15th January 2020 until 14th March 2020. The eWallet partners have stated that any e-Tunai Rakyat balance that is not utilised will expire after 14 March 2020.
Once you have received the RM30 incentive, you may spend it on goods and services within Malaysia. However, you will not be able to transfer it to any other users or withdraw the incentive from your eWallet.
