Thanks to the Pulitzer Prize-winning, Los Angeles Times (L.A Times) newspaper we can finally agree on which instant noodles is the best in the world. According to the food columnist Lucas Kwan Peterson, he had tried about 31 types of instant noodles from all over the world and then ranked them according to the 2 criteria – the taste and the T.I.A. (Truth In Advertising).
L.A Times named Malaysia’s MyKuali Penang White Curry as the second-best tasting instant ramen of 2019
Based on those two criteria, Lucas Kwan Peterson invariably fell in love with the MyKuali Penang White Curry, calling it “one of the best; with a deep seafood flavour, slightly sweet and almost coconutty.”
Here’s the reviewed from the food columnist about MyKuali Penang White Curry:
Finding a packet labeled “nondairy creamer” in with your instant noodle meal might alarm some, but not me, especially when it’s from MyKuali, a Malaysian company that makes a number of excellent noodle products. Its Penang white curry is one of the best — it has a deep seafood flavor, slightly sweet and almost coconutty. This curry isn’t white at all; it’s actually a very deep, Melisandre red. The spice of the soup will elicit the odd bead of sweat and the funk is heavy with this one — funkier than the tweeters of any mosquitos you’ve ever come across.

Well, there are three Msian instant noodles got into the Top 10
MyKuali Penang White Curry wasn’t the only Msian instant noodles that made it to the list. In fifth place is Ibumie Mi Goreng (Kapitan Curry). According to the L.A. Times, “The Curry Kapitan flavor brings a strong, distinct profile — cumin, coriander and chile — to create a very satisfying dry noodle. The sweet-spicy combo is done exceedingly well here; the sweetness is deep and caramelly, like brown sugar.”
Another Msian product that made it to the Top 10 is another one of MyKuali’s creations- Penang Spicy Prawn which they said “This one tops, by far, the Truth in Advertising ranking. Your mouth will taste like the lining of a shrimp boat captain’s gloves — in a good way, of course.”
Surprisingly, our local product beats Samyang and Sapporo Ichiban
But hey, for Indomie fans if you are wondering if your fav instant noodle made it to the list or not, relax. Even westerners love Indomie (Barbecue Chicken) and choose it as the #1 best instant noodle in the world. Who can’t resist the heavenly combination of the condiments and the crunchy bawang goreng as a garnish. Nyum!
MyKuali Penang White Curry was founded by a Msian studying abroad who was homesick and craving for some local food
Thomas Tang had a craving for the food of his hometown and it was Penang’s white curry noodles to be precise. The co-founder Sky Thomas Food Industries Sdn Bhd decided to do more on research on how he could bring his most-loved hawker fare overseas. So, in May 2013, MyKuali Penang White Curry was then introduced.
The chilli paste is made from fish stock, shrimp paste, spices and chillies to make it taste real and even better
The chilli paste is made of fish stock, shrimp paste, a lot of spices and chillies to resemble the similar taste of “sambal” used by hawkers. The well-mixed of all the condiments gives it a deep seafood flavour and also coconutty.
Kuddos MyKuali and keep on making our country proud!
