- She founded 1Minute Miracle with only RM5,000 in hand after her first business failed.
- In just 2 years, 1Minute Miracle managed to accumulate RM4.5mil profit.
5 years ago, it seemed as though the founder of 1Minute Miracle empire, Ain Fatin Liyana could do no wrong. With her experience doing online dropshipping that was able to generate multiple incomes, she knew she can do the same thing too – making her product. With RM20,000 capital in hand, Aifey Skincare was founded. But, it wasn’t last long. The brand could barely survive and it only lasted for 6 months.
She again founded and led a cosmetic empire named 1 Minute Miracle armed with a small capital of RM5,000 together with the lessons she had learned from the previous failure. This time, she wanted to do it properly with a bigger dream. All in 2 years, the cosmetic became a sensation with RM4.5mil sale within two years. She was at the highest peak of her life and never thought that anything could do wrong.
But, things didn’t last long and she again found herself at the lowest point in her life. This time, she lost almost everything and her confidence too. She admitted that her biggest mistake in doing business was being too comfortable in her comfort zone and simply trust anyone.
1Minute Miracle: A phenomena
1Minute Miracle Empire commenced its operation in 2014 and its first product was a foundation. In just one month, their sale grew tremendously from hundreds of order to thousands of order in a week. “Until one point, our supplier in Malaysia couldn’t cater our high order so we had to find another supplier that could do so,” adding that they managed to sell 3,000-4,000 unit of foundation to Singapore market.
”Remember that if we fall, we won’t fall forever”
She shared that the business grew fast and she wasn’t expecting it. They continued selling the same foundation for more than 2 years due to the high demand. “When we were in our comfort zone, we thought that we’re able to stand on our own. We both felt that we don’t need any help (laughed) which is wrong. That was our biggest mistake in doing business.”
At the highest peak
Then, the couple decided to come out with a new product offering. So, they introduced mascara with a free curler. Again, it was a huge phenomenon thanks to their strong marketing strategy. “In less than a week, we managed to sell 12,000 unit of mascara! If you look at our sale chart, it went up drastically. We were able to achieve RM4.5Mil in two years so we thought that we have succeeded.”
The second test
This is where they went wrong. “We have a person to monitor all the operation in the production factory so that it lets us to solely focus on the marketing side. One day, she told us our mascara involved in the counterfeit issue. I was in Turkey back then, and when she told me about it, so we had to think of Plan B.”
They invested so much to produce the mascara and when this issue happened, they had to change everything from packaging to material and it involved more capital. Their plan B was to produce a new foundation – with bigger size and higher price to minimise the loss.
“We climb too fast and fall too fast”
“Our sale dropped drastically. The demand for mascara didn’t last long. What made it even worst, our foundation sale also dropped. We can’t produce the previous foundation at a cheaper price because we had no money at that time. So we ended up couldn’t sell both of our products,” adding that they had to bear a great loss and also thought that 1Minute Miracle couldn’t sustain anymore.
The turning point to restart
It was an eye-opener for them to trace back everything in the past to see where did they went wrong. After went through all the inventories, they found out that there’s a huge internal issue that made them lose a great amount.
“We changed how we managed the business by getting to know everything about production from A-Z. You know what we did? We contacted with the supplier and that’s when we knew there’s a major internal issue,” adding that the counterfeit issue was a made-up story.
A new chapter for 1Minute Miracle
“Success for me is when our parents can live comfortably. Prioritise our parents. Family comes first, business second”
With a fresh mind and soul, Ain and her husband restart 1Minute Miracle. Their newest achievement is their product able to penetrate Indonesia market. They also currently dealing with a distributor from Singapore. “We never changed, we are still the same 1Minute Miracle, the only thing that makes us different is the knowledge that we carried with us,” said Ain who was awarded as an icon Kolej Komuniti Malaysia 2017.
Ain also shared that they are now currently helping local entrepreneurs by giving advice and consultation on how to run a business. “We had gone through a lot of things in the past. So we hope by doing this, we can help them by not encounter the same thing we had faced before,” she ended.
