The Entrepreneur Development Ministry (MED) will organise its first Vendor Innovation Partnership Programme (VIPP) which will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from Nov 12 to 13. VIPP has been organised since 2013 under the supervision of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), formerly known as GLC ExplorAce.
This programme aims to strengthen the cooperation and implementation of Bumiputera Small Business Enterprise (SME) entrepreneurs, especially among vendors. It is in line with the National Entrepreneurship Policy 2030 (DKN 2030) – in support of developing Malaysia to become a leading entrepreneurial country by 2030.
A total of 1,094 vendor companies received a turnover of RM5.312 billion in 2018
MED chief secretary Datuk Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi said that MED is targeting to receive the participation of over 5,000 from local vendors and key industry players this year.
“The uniqueness of the VIPP is the involvement of anchor companies, including key industry players who have the potential to become strategic partners of the Vendor Development Programme (PPV) or new anchor companies – major retail store used to drive business to smaller retailers – with vendors to work together in one programme,“ she said during a press conference announcing the VIPP in Putrajaya Lake Club yesterday.
She also added that through this programme, MED will provide a platform for anchor companies and vendors to grow cross-cutting businesses, which are comprehensive and cover various stages of the supply chain.
A platform for anchor companies and vendors to showcase their achievements
According to Datuk Wan Suraya, the VIPP will be held annually and allow these anchor companies and vendors to showcase their achievements attained throughout the implementation phase under the PPV.
This year, VIPP marks renewal in terms of expanding partnerships with the involvement of new anchors and vendors from various new industries – aerospace, rail, medicinal, biotechnology, renewable energy and air mobility.

Also present were Muniff Kamaruddin, Chief Strategy & Value Creation Officer of Celcom Axiata Berhad and also Zuraida Jamaluddin, Chief Corporate Officer at Celcom Axiata Berhad. Celcom has been participating in VPV since 2016 and now has over 50 vendor companies under PPV.
“Our intention is to support the ministry’s ambition in DKN 2030. Coincidentally, the ambition is in-line with our company’s ambition as well which is developing the ecosystem. We are much into digitalisation and innovation so the values and aspirations are very similar. So, what we can do is to help the MED programme in developing business matching as in providing expertise and guidance to all vendors.”
Among the activities that will be held throughout the 2-day programme are knowledge sharing sessions on business, entrepreneurial and training talks, financing clinics and over 500 business matching sessions; involving engagement with 21 speakers and 16 mega-booth anchor companies.
