The beloved blockbuster 2019 film, “Upin & Ipin: The Lone Gibbon Kris ”, has been included in the longlist for nominees for Best Animated Film at the 2020 Academy Awards. The film has created history where it was listed with 32 other international animation films from around the world for nomination in the 2020 Academy Award or Oscars in the category, which will be announced in January.
The great news was announced by local production company Les’ Copaque Production

Upin & Ipin: The Lone Gibbon Kris was produced by Les’ Copaque Production Sdn Bhd. The film which is based off the well-received Malaysian animated franchise will see it compete for Oscar with 32 other nominees including Pixar’s Toy Story 4, The Secret Life of Pets and Frozen 2.
The local production company announced the news via its official Instagram and Twitter accounts. They also thanked their fans for their support all these years through an Instagram post.
The film received positive feedback with total audience exceeding two million people

The film succeeded in raking in RM25mil at the local box office after only three weeks of screening. The film costed RM20mil features Malaysia’s favourite twins interacting with characters from traditional Malay folktales, such as Mat Jenin, Raja Bersiong, Nakhoda Ragam and Si Tanggang.
Released in March 2019, the film has been screened in Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, Uzbekistan, India and there’s also a Chinese version in the works.
Awarded as the Best Film Story in 2019

Upin & Ipin: Keris Siamang Tunggal was recently awarded as the Best Film Story in the 2019 International Animation Film Festival (ANIMAZW) in Montreal, Canada. The film might stand a solid chance as it has already bagged the ANIMAZA award.
But, it’s not final yet

From the shortlist, the animated feature films will be vetted through before they are filtered into the Oscar nomination list. We will only obtain the result on January 13, 2020 when the nomination list is announced.
