Malaysian products are gaining popularity among 1.4 billion consumers in China. According to International Trade and Industry (MITI) Minister Datuk Darell Leiking, Malaysian products are often ranked as among the best and highest quality. Recently, a Chinese influener managed to sell 80,000 Malaysia’s bird’s nest product in an e-commerce platform, Taobao.
80,000 units sold in just 5 minutes
Lieer, a Chinese key opinion leader (KOL) or a famous influencer managed to sell 80,000 units of Malaysia’s product; bird’s nest in just five minutes during a Taobao livestream last September, 16. It was a major breaking-record for the influencer whose real name is Li Lie.
This Chines influencer has over 2.5 million fans on her Taobao account
The famous influencer in China is said to have over 2.5 millions fans on her Taobao e-commerce platform. Taobao is a Chinese online shopping website owned by Alibaba. It is the world’s biggest e-commerce website and the most visited website.
Lieer was actually helping to promote Malaysian products as part of Malaysia Week 2019 campaign in Shanghai, China. Hence, the reason why she was promoting the locally-produced bird’s nest product to the surprised 80,000 units sold in just 5 minutes.
An initiative to widen the reach of Malaysian products to consumers in China
The campaign first launched in 2018 as part of an eWTP (electronic World Trade Platform) initiative with Alibaba group which aims to widen the reach of Malaysian products to consumer in China. Taobao being the world’s largest e-commerce is a powerful platform to reach bigger market group with its livestreaming platform.
The Malaysian Week 2019 campaign included more than 800 products from our own country – including instant coffee, local snacks and the most favourite food is durian-based food. The main purpose of the campaign is to highlight Malaysian products to consumers in China and the world too.
Another milestone day for the close cooperation between Malaysia and China!
With the major breaking record of selling 80,000 units of bird’s nest, it is set as another milestone for the close cooperation between Malaysia and China which will continue to bear mutual understanding and increasing benefits for those two countries.
According to the chairman and CEO of Ant Financial (board member and partner of Alibaba Group), Eric Jing said that sharing an eWTP platform with Malaysia has led to significant progress in the e-commerce segment. The cooperation with the Malaysian government not only allows Malaysian merchants to grow their business but also reap long term benefits in the future.
Technically, Lieers wasn’t the only Chinese influencer who did very well promoting Malaysian products
There are a few popular Chinese influencers who did the same in promoting Malaysian products. Huang Wei, known as Viya reportedly sold 3,000 units of teh tarik products in just three seconds. On top of that, she sold an estimated 30,000 units of biscuit wafers and 20,000 units of durian pie within a few minutes.
Another Chinese influencer, Zhu Chenhui, known as Cherie achieved 5mil yuan (RM2.9mil) of sales of Malaysian bird’s nest products during a single 10-minute livestreaming session.
