Most Malaysians know Chef Wan, the iconic celebrity chef who always appear on the screen for cooking shows especially during Ramadhan. The Malaysia’s most loved award-winning chef wears another hat as the face behind the newest restaurant in town, De.Wan 1958 by Chef Wan.
For those who have been craving to taste his cooking, you can finally tick off from your wish-list and head to De.Wan 1958 by Chef Wan.
1. Exclusive restaurant with amazing and classy deco

Located in The LINC KL at the intersection of Jalan Ampang and Jalan Tun Razak, De.Wan 1958 by Chef Wan features the main dining area, four private rooms which can be turned into a hall and state-of-the-art event space with 3D projection mapping that can cater hundreds of people at one time. You’ll be greeted by the tropical and vibrant interior mirroring Chef Wan’s cheery and warm personality.
As you walked through the main entrance, you can see each partition has different design theme. The main hall adapts a classy design with modern furniture but with a twist of traditional touch to make you feel comfortable as you dine at home. The event space on the other hand, use the banquet tables with minimalist deco but once you look up at the ceiling, you’ll be amazed by the huge Morrocan style lamp beautify the space.

One couldn’t leave the restaurant without taking a picture or two in front of Chef Wan’s massive contemporary portrait inside the VIP area. The whole decoration is pretty amazing, vibrant, rich and opulent.
2. De.Wan 1958 by Chef Wan: The best of Malaysian cuisine

Here at De.Wan 1958 by Chef Wan, you’ll get to experience authentic Malay cuisine where some of them have been long forgotten by the local simply because the recipes aren’t passed down to the younger generation. With his 28 years of experience in cooking, Chef Wan aims to share his passion for Malaysian food through his recipes. The kitchen is led by Chef Wan himself assisted by a few well-experienced chefs.
To start, it is highly recommended to try the Cucur Udang (prawn fritters deep-fried to crispy, golden perfection). Wonderfully combined between crunchy and soft, with large fresh prawns, beansprouts and chives, served with a deliciously thick and creamy peanut sauce.
Make sure you order Kerabu Pucuk Paku, a traditional vegetable salad with fresh cockles that mix with lime juice to perfection. It is safe to say it has a balanced taste, light and fresh.
2. Enjoy unlimited servings of rice

To go with your mains, you can enjoy unlimited servings of rice; choose from white rice, nasi kunyit or nasi telur Terengganu (recommended). At De.Wan 1958 by Chef Wan, there is no such thing as “on diet”. All the servings are in sharing portion and the price are reasonable too.
3. Chef Wan’s recipes

For mains, it is recommended to try Gulai Lemak Udang Galah Nanas. Fresh and succulent tiger prawns slow-cooked in creamy coconut milk, yellow turmeric and juicy pineapple cubes. This thick, golden, spicy gulai is Chef Wan’s all-time favourite Nyonya-style yellow curry prawn dish.

The Ikan Bakar Siakap is grilled to perfection and goes well with the selection of sauces. You can choose from tamarind sauce, homemade green chilli sambal, homemade red chilli sambal, sweet soy sauce with chillies and garlic, dried shrimp sambal, green calamnsi sambal, fermented prawn paste sambal, fermented small shrimps or krill sauce or fermented durian chilli paste to with your selection of BBQ meat or seafood.
4. Save some space for dessert!

Make sure you save some space for dessert. Don’t ever leave the restaurant without trying their best-selliing Bubur Som Som, a soft rice flour pudding topped with creamy coconut milk and cinnamon-infused palm sugar syrup. With you are durian lover, try the Bubur Pulut Hitam, black glutinous rice topped with fresh coconut milk and durian ice cream. The taste of these traditional desserts will definitely bring you back to memory lane.
5. Great place for private event space with 3D projection mapping

De.Wan 1958 by Chef Wan also caters privaate event depending on the size of crowd. There are a hall that can accomodate up to 50 pax and a banquet hall fully equipped with a 3D projection mapping that can turn the hall setting into a magical jungle or anything that you prefer.
6. Enjoy your meal and get a chance to meet and take a photo with Chef Wan

Reservation is highly recommended if you wish to dine at De.Wan 1958 by Chef Wan. All the servings come in a sharing portion so it’s a good place to have a nice family dinner or reunion with your friends on Friday’s night. The price is affordable and suits the taste and the portion. The best combo is, you’ll get to meet and greet Chef Wan himself and don’t be shy to take a photo with him (he’s such a friendly man!). Overall all staff are well-trained and friendly too. They will welcome you with a huge smile and make sure you won’t leave with an empty stomach.
