In 2014, Farhan Nadia Bakly, a mother of two, created the first 100% locally crafted baby and toddler soft-sole leather footwear brand after struggling to find unique shoes for her own children. And Bebebundo has all the cutest designs available. Bringing you style, comfort and exclusiveness, this will definitely be your child’s most memorable solemate!
2. Menur
Established in 2017, the brand was founded in Kuching, Sarawak with one sole mission: to produce high quality bespoke scarves with aesthetic floral design elements. The name means ‘Jasmine’ and is taken from the old Javanese language. Ever since its inception, Menur has expanded throughout Southeast Asia and has a strong presence in Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia.
3. Merrack & Co.
Focusing on travel-friendly espadrilles, Merrack & Co. is created by two friends, Intan Khalid and Fauzana Sidek. Comfortable, stylish and adorable, you will also fall in love with how light the shoes are as well. Packing for balik kampong will be easy as you can fit a few pairs into your luggage and they won’t add bulk to your luggage.
4. Nazifi Nasri
You won’t find any other brand that is like Nazifi Nasri. The brand started out in specialised men sandals collection in 2014 but has since expanded into several limited collections of women’s footwear and now even men shoes. The brand aims to bring both classic and minimal expects to create their own latter-day vision and focus on the perfect material.
5. SHALS
The Shals sisters, Shalma Ainaa and Shalmanisa founded the clothing brand in 2011 and has expanded to include a range of ready to wear, accessories and handbags. The brand reflects the sense of relaxed and timeless elegance of reinvented classics for your wardrobe essentials. Functional and practical, we love the traditional technics and silhouette with the combination of modern and minimalist aesthetic.
6. Tangsi Tujuh
Answering the nusantara calling, Tangsi Tujuh is a dreamy clothing line with a mystical air lingering around its minimalist aesthetic. Its latest debut collection, Megha & Maiya tells a tale of nusantara scent. The brand offers beautiful kebayas, songkets, and kaftans.
7. Tyra Mei
This humble brand started out as a kiosk in Amcorp Mall in 2004. The owner, Christine Chin has a passion for batik and traditional wear. She strongly believes that a traditional attire can change the appearance of a woman. It is timeless, elegant and classic. We can’t help but adore the beautiful variety of kebarung and kebaya labuh, all with matching batik sarong, offered by Tyra Mei.
8. Vanderlyle KL
This locally-designed children’s wear brand is all about timelessness, with an air of sophistication. The name Vanderlyle is inspired by a song called Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks by The National. While the designs are driven by the founder’s daughter, you will be glad to know that the brand is versatile and most of the collection is unisex.
9. Werks and Wit
These eye-catching, witty and pop colored brooches and dokoh necklaces were brought to life by the Norman sisters, Warda and Wirda. Founded in 2012, the brand aims to make traditional Malay accessories a part of daily wear and not just cultural occasions. So, instead of the usual gold or silver, you can now add hold, contemporary hues to both your traditional wear and casual attire.
10. Zoo for People
With its tagline, Hardware for Gentlemen, Zoo for People is a Southeast Asian brand that has been designing killer men’s accessories since 2014. It urbanises classic and traditional wear with an industrial edge. Thus far, the its range of accessories includes precious bracelets, gorgeous handcrafted cufflinks and shirt studs (butang Baju Melayu), as well as knitted ties and tie clips.
